Style: Sander with CaseVerified Purchase

I purchased this sander to replace an old (pre-dust collecting) Makita that could no longer maintain its grip on sandpaper. The random orbital is a different animal than the straight orbital; I think it works much better. Stock removal rate on the Bosch is considerably faster - I used it a few days ago to smooth hardened epoxy/filler while fairing the keel of our boat, and though I had been skeptical about the usefulness of the variable speed feature, I actually used a slower setting to maintain control of stock removal. Even with 60 grit, the resulting surface is remarkably smooth (on wood or epoxy) with no visible marks. Although it has been used on a couple projects, the sanding disk still looks like new. The dust collection is amazing; very little dust gets away from this thing. The down side of that is that the dust collector needs to be cleaned out fairly often. I found the dust collector lid difficult to pry off, but it may loosen up somewhat with use. One little trick to cleaning out the dust collector is to use the shop vac to suck the dust back out of the inlet passage on the dust collector, after lightly tapping the collector on the bench to knock the dust out of the filter element. If you do that, you can clean the dust out in seconds, without removing the lid. Somewhere in the instructions, it says not to force the tool or apply excessive pressure. Believe that. Leaning on the tool seems to slow down the action and make the tool wander all over the place, so just apply light pressure and you can gently guide the tool to where it needs to be. Vibration is minimal; this tool is a pleasure to use.

Style: Sander with Soft Carrying BagVerified Purchase

I bought my sander in 2016 and have used it *a ton* on wood working and metal working projects. This spring I even used it to sand the hull of my fiberglass sailboat. It simply is one of the best thought-out power tools in my arsenal.

It collects dust *very* well with its included exhaust filter. In eight years I've never had to replace the filter, I just use my shop vac to suck out all the dust and debris from the filter, and away we go! That said, it also works well in collecting dust when joined with a shop vac; several days of continuous use on the sailboat proved that.

What tipped me over to finally write a review is that the pad finally wore out. After eight years the sander wouldn't hold onto sanding pads any longer. But... replacement pads are available! Cheap! On Amazon! My recommendation; buy two replacement pads. Who knows if they'll still be available in 2032?

While I'm at it I think that I'll search for a replacement filter, just in case...

Excellent at capturing dust….

I recently had the misfortune of having many of my tools stolen. One of my more recent purchases was a 5 in random orbit sander from a leading black and yellow brand. I found that to be an excellent and very effective sander. I chose to replace it with this Bosch sander because I have been very impressed with the quality of their tools and was curious how they would compare. This Bosch sander was
a bit of a let down when it comes to controllability, ergonomics, and effectiveness of the sanding. While still an excellent sander, I feel like my old one was a better tool. The only area I would say the Bosch is better in, is
Dust Collection. This sander makes very little mess, it collects its dust very well, with or without being attached to a vacuum. I would say that overall, I am happy with the Bosch, the quality seems to be excellent, and it does the job, just not as well as my last sander, but it does create far less of a mess, and that might be a big selling point for some buyers.

The Bosch ROS20VSC is a fantastic random orbital sander. It delivers a smooth finish with its swirl-preventing pad dampening system and offers great versatility with variable speed control. The hook and loop system makes disc changes easy, and the dust collection system is highly effective, keeping the workspace clean. The included carrying bag and accessories are a nice bonus. My only minor issue is that the dust canister fills up quickly on larger jobs. Overall, a reliable and efficient tool—highly recommend!

It comes with a vacuum hose attachment, which is not clear from the ad, assuming you bought the version with the case. It often jerks around randomly which is caused by hand pressure and the newness of the sanding disks. It is not as fast as sheet sanders, but it is more gentle on the wood and provides no orbital sand rings unless you press too hard. It is Very quiet. It pulls almost all dust with vacuum hose attachments.There is NO need to buy any adapters that are said to work. They don’t fit and there is poor documentation on how to use them!

I bought this as a replacement for a stolen Porter Cable orbital sander of the same size. I do like the features on this one and the included capability to hook up directly to my dust collection system. In my first project, deck chairs, it did a great job, and worked out well.

This is my first random orbital sander and it gives smooth and efficient sanding. The handle is very comfortable to hold for long periods and it's very lightweight compared to sanding with my multi-tool attachment.

The dust collection system is very efficient and it had reduced my cleanup significantly. I still wear a mask but this really does its job well. The cover is a bit hard to remove though so be careful when cleaning or else you'll have fine dust everywhere. I wish the canister was a bit larger but I do like the option to use my own shop vacuum.

Overall, it's a solid choice for DIYers like myself
