These pads are always on hand in my shop, though I buy them in bulk now. They are indispensable for the finish work on items requiring high grit pads.

They arent meant to remove material, they are a final finish grit. I would equate them in grit to a 000 steel wool pad, but they dont contain oil and release very little dust. I also use these in cleaning rust and grime off of parts after electrolysis treatment. They disintegrate after a while when used this way, but leave a nice finish free of scratches. They will not remove material in my experience, the green pads WILL. The grey pads leave no marks, whereas the green leave sanding marks similar to a very fine brushed finish like you would get with about 400 grit paper. When used between coats of finish on wood, they create a very nice build up, and give the finish a goos surface to stick to.

I used to use sandpaper between coats of polyurethane. The sandpaper would scratch and tear. Then I discovered these little pads. They make the job so much easier and cleaner. They last a long time. You can use them for a light, between coats buffing or, with a little pressure, a deeper sanding job. A big improvement over ordinary sandpaper and much cheaper in the long run.

I build "Heirloom Quality" Custom Woodwork and have been for 30+ years, now with extreme, sever RA, I look for anything that help keep the High Quality with less painful effort, These Between Coat Finishing Pads- are the ticket to a wonderful "glass like" finish, I do go to extremes with wet sanding with 800 grit, 1000 grit before French Polishing (when the client wants it), but after the "seal coat" and after "Grain Filler"- I use these, when building up a complete protective finish (good looking as well) The extra effort that is not difficult, but ensures that ALL coats are etched, so the previous coat has some "Tooth" for the next to bite on, chemical adhesion (when one coat melts into the previous coat) are much improved by using these pads, steel wool used to be the only option, steel shards in my finger tips and extra wiping to remove the "steel" are gone from my shop- 3M has always been a leader for many items I have used for the past 30+ years- Thanks Amazon for the availability to buy at a very good cost, and BIG Thanks to whoever invented the "synthetic" media for this process

I use a variety of finishing pads for my furniture restorations. This pad seems to have just the right amount of abrasive to prepare an applied finish to receive a second or third coat. Many of my finishes have a high gloss, so it is imperative that the between coats preparation is properly done so that the gloss shows no evidence of minute scratching. This pad is perfect for doing that preparation. Before the final coat of finish is applied, I use this pad and then follow up with a Fine abrasive pad to get a super smooth surface.
