Enclosure Air Conditioning

If you fail to manage your enclosure’s heat gain, the electrical components enclosed within may overheat. Typically manufacturers recommend maintaining an enclosure air temperature of 95°F or less to reduce the internal heat load. Environmental factors, a lack of ventilation, and restricted air flow can also cause the formation of hot spots, which may lead to equipment overheating. In addition, remember that it is important to select the right enclosure air conditioner capacity. An undersized air conditioner will fail to adequately cool the cabinet. An oversized air conditioner will have a higher initial investment cost, lack efficiency, and will frequently turn on and off (which may result in an unacceptable temperature variation). Ensure that you select the right capacity for your cooling needs.

Closed-Loop Cooling

Closed-loop air conditioners mount onto AC enclosures, removing heat without allowing ambient air into the sealed enclosure. With a closed-loop system, a blower draws hot air from inside the enclosure. As this air passes through an evaporator coil, heat and moisture are removed before the air is forced back into the enclosure.

The closed-loop internal circuit protects the enclosed equipment from heat and airborne contaminants in all types of hostile environments, creating a controlled space that allows the enclosed equipment to operate under the best possible temperature and environmental conditions. This type of cooling system efficiently cools electronic equipment housed in a NEMA-rated enclosure without exposing the sensitive electronics to moisture or airborne contaminants.
