19 Killed In Attack On Chad's Presidential Palace

The Chadian government has described an attack on the presidential palace on Thursday as a "little incident" intended to "destabilized the country". Heavy gunfire was heard in the capital, N'Djamena, when gunmen reportedly entered the presidential compound. The incident happened after President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno came out of a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang-Yi.

Chadian security forces have said the incident is an attempted terrorist attack. Deby, who gained power following the death of his father in 2021, was declared winner of delayed presidential election last year, which opposition politicians claimed was "manipulated".
