Welcome to Against the Wind Farm!
When Corky and I (Helen) began work on our 5 acre plot of land in 2007 our enthusiasm for farming far outweighed our experience. Our keen interest in land stewardship, gardening, organic practices, and healthy food made our limited know-how feel manageable. While our enthusiasm has remained solid and our experience has grown exponentially, the passage of time has slowed our pace, and we are working toward handing off the farm responsibilities to the next generation.
In the summer of 2021, my daughter Nikko, and Jeremy, and the little people (Ash and Ali) arrived at the farm in the midst of fire, extreme heat, and mosquitoes. Then there was the relentless autumn rain, and then record-making snowfall. In spite of those extremes they are happily settling into their new community and are as enthusiastic for small-farm life as we were fifteen years ago.
The 2022 season will be filled with a lot of changes on our small farm. Corky and I are stepping back to welcome Nikko and family to step up and manage the existing field crops, and to add their own special touch to Against the Wind Farm.
We are looking forward to sharing what we have learned over the years with them, and to learning that there are more ways to get things done than ours. We will remain on the farm and be actively involved throughout this transition period.
Corky and I want to express our deepest gratitude for all of the support that we have had over the years for our farming efforts. Our farming methods, while perhaps not entirely done by the book, did have wonderful results and provided a great deal of joy for us and many others. Heartfelt thanks to all who followed us on our later-in-life small farm journey!
