WebDAV / Proxy Interoperability

There are a number of proxies available that are not familiar with the new HTTP methods specified by the WebDAV protocol. As a result, these proxies can block the HTTP request, which interferes with DAV operations.

This page lists all known proxies and a status specifying their interoperability with WebDAV.

With this page, we hope to pressue proxy developers to implement the new methods specified by RFC 2518. It would also be nice to allow administrators to configure additional methods, enabling future HTTP-based protocols such as DASL or DeltaV.

Some broadly-used clients affected by broken proxies are: Outlook Express (using HTTPMail; see support article Q259133), Internet Explorer's Web Folders, and Microsoft Office 2000. Some popular, DAV-enabled web sites that are affected by broken proxies are Driveway, Hotmail, MyDocsOnline, and Sharemation.

Please send updates to Greg.

Some reverse proxies may have issues with WebDAV. However, I have no data on these at this time.

I've also found a page that lists some other proxy and firewall products. It is unknown whether any of these support WebDAV.
