Thanks to my new favorite person on Twitter, you will never look at Michael Jackson’s video for his 1992 single Remember The Time the same way again. The Eddie Murphy, Iman, and Magic Johnson starring video takes different vibe when you see things from the perspective of Eddie Murphy’s Pharoah character. Watch the video and read some of these amazing tweets below:
Michael Jackson was an asshole in “Remember the Time”

Pharoah ain’t deserve any of the disrespect. Queen had an attitude moment the video started.

Behind The Photo is a series on The Strut where we give context to famous music photos that we see circulating on the internet.
This 1968 photo of Pattie Boyd and George Harrison captures the couple at their home called Kinfauns outside of London (here on a map) two years into their marriage. The photo was taken by Pattie Boyd herself. The Morrison Hotel Gallery quotes her note: “Camera set on tripod to capture the first bloom of roses in our garden.”
The photo appears to have been taken in front of the trellis near their pool. On the far right of the below photos you can see the white trellis at various states of rose growth (photos via Callmeredtelephone):
The Morrison Hotel Gallery’s Gerry Baum has this to say about the picture:
I love this, simple, telling photograph, taken by Pattie Boyd. Her intense expression and George’s passive stance seem to tell the story of their relationship and who they were as people. I know the story is George was “bored” waiting for the camera… but I think she really captured a great moment. The red roses in full bloom and the blue of her top play so well together.
Sadly their love story would come to an end a few years later when the couple separated. Pattie would later be married to Eric Clapton for 10 years.
Prints of this photo are available for purchase here.
]]>Quite possibly the biggest moment of this weekend’s Stagecoach Festival was Shania Twain debuting a single called Life’s About To Get Good from what will be her first new album in 15 years. Here’s what Shania said about the new song via Rolling Stone:
“I was at home looking out at the ocean and I said to myself, ‘Here I am stuck in this past of negativity, but it’s so beautiful out. I’m not in the mood to write a ‘feeling-sorry-for-myself’ song,” she said of writing “Life’s About to Get Good.” “You can’t have the good without the bad. And that’s what the song ended up being about.”
Those outside the country music world (or too young to remember her 2002 album Up!) might not quite realize how big a deal a new album from Shania Twain will be. Currently sportsbook site Sports Betting Dime has Shania listed as the odds on favorite to have the number one selling female album of 2017 at 2/1 odds. From the site:
One of country music’s greatest artist and one of the highest selling female acts of all time is coming out of retirement to release her fifth studio album (first since 2002), which will probably shatter records once again. Her popularity is still undeniable. Pegged as her “farewell tour,” the Canadian songwriter sold out her Rock This Country Tour in 2015. The farewell ironically re-lit the creative flame within and now she is ready for world dominance once again. Just to put things in perspective, her 2002 album Up! went certified diamond 17 days after its release.
That would mean beating out even Katy Perry, Lorde and Lana Del Rey. The much anticipated new album is due out in September according to Billboard. Watch her perform her new single Life’s About To Get Good below:

]]>As The Chainsmokers have ascended the pop charts, the criticism of their generic songwriting formulas has increased. Thankfully musician John Fassold broke down the creation of one of their songs in hilarious fashion. Important steps include:
– Picking a basic chord
– Singing the top note of said chord
– Writing about how hard it is to be white and in love
