Selena Gomez Shuts Down Plastic Surgery Rumors Yet Again

Selena Gomez is sick of the speculation surrounding her appearance. Years after she spoke out about being on the receiving end of incessant body shaming, conversations about what cosmetic procedures the actress might have undergone kicked up again. While Gomez has previously laughed off rumors about cheek filler and admitted to Botox, she clarified her stance — and exasperation — on TikTok over the weekend. In response to a side-by-side video of Gomez posted by content creator Marissa Barrionuevo — who is also a physician’s assistant in a plastic-surgery office — the 32-year-old wrote, “Honestly I hate this. I was on stripes because of flare up [sic]. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”
Commenters deduced that “stripes” may refer to the steroids Gomez takes to help ease symptoms from lupus, the disease she was diagnosed with in 2014. Though Barrionuevo’s original post was from 2023, the creator quickly reposted Gomez’s comment in a new video apologizing for any harm she’d caused. “Although I always try to lead with grace and mindfulness, I am sorry this upset you (and I understand why it did),” Barrionuevo captioned the post. “I decided to stop making videos like this last year because of the negative impact it can cause. It was never my intention.”

“You don’t owe it to anyone to tell us why you don’t look the same as when you were a teenager or in yours 20s,” Barrionuevo continued. “I adore you.” Gomez apparently saw this follow-up and responded once again, commenting, “I love you. Not about you. I just get sad sometimes.” Hopefully for Selena’s sake, that will be the final word on this matter.
