Things have been quiet on the Rob Kardashian front ever since he settled the revenge-porn lawsuit filed by his ex-fiancée, Blac Chyna. Though the two still co-parent their 7-year-old daughter, Dream (who just dropped her first single, per People), the youngest Kardashian has been mostly missing from the spotlight since exiting his family’s E! series Keeping Up With the Kardashians as well as the doomed Rob & Chyna, which was canceled after just one season. But the 36-year-old has made two rare appearances in his famous sisters’ lives — so unremarkable you might’ve missed them altogether. First, he was mentioned on a recent episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians (back to that in a moment). Then, as TMZ reported on Thursday, he could be seen in the background of Khloé Kardashian’s 40th-birthday celebration, which she posted to Instagram earlier in the day.
In footage from Khloé’s dinner, Rob can be seen seated at the head of the table alongside Malika Haqq, laughing in celebration of his sister’s milestone birthday. While the two have always been close — Rob posted a rare “happy birthday” photo for his sister last year, and Khloé has talked openly about stepping in as a third parent for Dream — they are hardly seen or photographed in public together. And though Rob hasn’t physically appeared on the family’s revamped and airbrushed Hulu series, his voice was featured during a filmed phone call between him and Khloé during the current season and another expletive-laden call with mom Kris Jenner last season on an episode that aired in October.
Sure, Rob has become a bit of a recluse in comparison to his post-happy sisters, but no one ever expected him to be edited out of his family’s lives entirely. Still, these recent pops of Rob onscreen feel like concessions in the Kardashian universe. It’s way too early to tell if a Rob Kardashian comeback is in the works, but Kardashian breadcrumbs are never dropped without a plan in place. In the meantime, back to reading about Kourtney oversharing about her vagina again.
