While she did not make a formal endorsement during the presidential campaign, Kim Kardashian is really leaning into a Republican vibe as of late. There’s her friendship with Ivanka Trump and her new campaign with Dolce & Gabbana — and now she’s chosen to align herself with Donald Trump’s new right-hand man, Elon Musk. Earlier this week, Kardashian showed off her new Tesla Optimus, a humanoid robot that Musk promises will be able to “be a teacher, babysit your kids, walk your dog, mow your lawn, get the groceries, just be your friend.” Kardashian has now found a new thing to add to the list: photo-shoot partner.
On Tuesday, the reality star shared a carousel of images that I guess is supposed to make me think she’s dating the robot. It’s positioned behind the wheel of the new Tesla Cybercab, while Kardashian squats in front of it, holds its hand, and sits on its lap. If you think this is bizarro behavior, most of the people in the comments agree with you. “Sorry Kim, you’re not gonna normalise this weird behaviour for us we don’t want this,” reads the top comment. “This tells us exactly everything we need to know,” reads another. Desus Nice came out and said what everyone was thinking, writing, “Maga mommy we see you.”
The Skims founder has actually been close to Trump for longer than Musk has. (Do you think she made the intro?) She visited the White House a couple of times during Trump’s first term — who can forget this photo — and worked closely with Ivanka and Jared Kushner on her criminal-justice-reform campaigns.
Kardashian hopped on the Tesla bandwagon earlier this year, when she started driving a Cybertruck. Since then, the relationship has clearly blossomed, as she’s now promoting the Optimus and the Cybercab to her 359 million followers. She’s picked an interesting time to align herself with Musk, who has not left Donald Trump’s side since the election and was recently given his own department in the federal government. Maybe Kimmy will get one next.
