Vancouver’s holiday season gets a luminous kick-off this week as the Lights of Hope returns to St. Paul’s Hospital on November 27. This beloved tradition has transformed the hospital’s facade into a radiant display of holiday lights since 1998, raising more than $53.7 million to support hundreds of thousands of patients and residents across Providence Health Care. The annual display, built over six weeks by more than 150 volunteers, features tens of thousands of sparkling lights—and a festive fireworks show on launch day.
Last year alone, the hospital recorded over 530,000 patient visits, including 98,051 emergency department visits and 155,298 outpatient consultations. Notably, St. Paul’s is the only facility in BC that is performing adult heart transplants, with 20 completed last year alongside 796 open-heart surgeries.
Donations from the Lights of Hope help bridge critical funding gaps, ensuring innovative research, compassionate care, and essential resources for patients, caregivers, and long-term care residents.
“This night is about hope—and that means saving and changing lives,” shares Sheila Biggers, president and CEO of St. Paul’s Foundation, in a statement. “Lives are on the line this holiday, and we’re here to remind patients they’re not alone. Your donations will make the difference.”
Visitors can enjoy the display nightly throughout the holiday season.
