www.shipsandoil.com was
originally www.mmass.co.uk a website set up bring to the notice of the world
the presence of Marex Marine Services by featuring details
of supply vessels from all over the world. The first picture was uploaded on the Marex
website in 1998. In one way or another it is intended
that every single picture uploaded since will remain
available. Over time the site has become an entity in
itself, and so is now detached from Marex Marine Services,
and is devoted in one way or another to marine support to
the offshore oil industry. IN the early days there were very
few sites, even amongst the shipyards and the ship-owners
with any proper information so we used to be the market
leaders. Now everyone tries to attract people and so we have
taken a smaller role.
That being said, we have had a
period of limited activity and for that reason some of our
fan base may have drifted away. Now, with the publication of
our first related book, "The History of the Supply Ship" we
hope to be more active again. See the link to the left. The
site contains a regular picture contribution from seafarers
all over the world, quite a bit of ship information, some
articles, a newsletter and a link to a webcam on the edge of
Aberdeen harbour. All these items can be accessed by the
links above.
Of all these items the most
difficult to deal with is the ship information due to
the massive newbuilding programme the constant changes of
ownership. However, we are going to get back in there and
start to provide more information and more photographs.
Where this has happened we'll make some indication on the
first page.
SPONSORS
MMASS
Consultancy Services - Marex Marine and Safety Services
are a consultancy assisting the owners and charterers of
mobile units with many aspects of operating these curious
marine objects. To this end they write many sorts of
operating and safety documents, including safety cases,
carry out offshore vessel audits and inspections and manage
marine operations. MMASS LIMITED is
a sister company engaged in the distantly related activity
of supplying tank cleaning equipment to offshore vessels and
rigs, also to companies who supply offshore mud pit cleaning
services. Marinetronix Limited specialise in
the service, repair, calibration and supply of dynamic
positioning (DP) sensors and hold a comprehensive inventory
of spares.
The Marine Safety Forum is a
relatively informal organisation made up of ship-owners, oil
companies, consultancies and others with an interest in
offshore safety. It holds meetings two or three times a
year, initiates workgroups and publishes information, much
of which can be found on their website. We offer the link as
our own small contribution.
