NHS 10 Year Health Plan

In October 2024, the UK government launched a major public engagement initiative to help shape the NHS 10 Year Plan in England. We want to ensure children and young people are at the centre of this plan, and we outline how members in England can help us make the case for children and the child health workforce.

Our four recommendations are to prioritise children's health, ensure fair funding, devolution to Integrated Care Systems work better and support a sustainable workforce. We outline how members can share their voice.

Dr Mike McKean, RCPCH Vice President for Policy, has said that the engagement initiative for this plan "is an important step that we hope brings us closer to turning around the unacceptable state of children’s health".

In September, we published our blueprint for transforming child health services in England, calling on UK government to recover services and improve health outcomes. We consider three targeted areas to reduce pressure on services.

Look out too for videos from some of the RCPCH Officers explaining these proposed shifts and what they mean for paediatrics - they'll be featured on our social channels, including X, LinkedIn and Instagram.

The voice of children and young people

Children and young people have the right to be involved in decisions that affects them. The Change NHS Portal is for age 16+ and our RCPCH &Us team developed a resource hub so we can share their voice.

Children and young people were invited to complete our survey (now closed), and youth groups and schools can download our guidance, slide decks and FAQs to run engagement sessions.
