Examinations

We offer two qualifications: Membership (MRCPCH) and the Diploma of Child Health (DCH). We support candidates to register, apply for and sit their exams - whether in the UK and Ireland, or in a growing number of countries internationally.

Before you can apply, you need to register for exams via your RCPCH online account. You'll need to provide your GMC number or evidence of your primary medical qualification.

Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) is achieved by passing three theory exams and one clinical exam. It's an essential part of training and mapped to our curriculum.

Diploma of Child Health recognises competence in the care of children for those in specialties allied to paediatrics such as general practice. It comprises theory exam and one clinical exam.

Theory exams (for MRCPCH and DCH)

Our three theory exams take place in the UK and around the world. MRCPCH candidates take three theory exams and DCH candidates take one theory exam.

MRCPCH Clinical

This exam takes place at hospitals in the UK and around the world and may include real patients. Candidates take it after passing the three theory exams.

It assesses whether candidates have reached the standard in clinical skills that is expected of a newly appointed Specialty Trainee 4 (ST4).

DCH Clinical

This exam takes place at hospitals in the UK and around the world and may include real patients. Candidates take it after passing the FOP theory exams.

It assesses whether candidates have reached the standard in clinical skills expected of a newly appointed General Practitioner (GP) who has completed a short period of training in paediatrics.
