Canal, by renowned chef Justin Beckett, combines haute cuisine with haute couture in an elegant, upscale restaurant. To visually articulate this fusion of food and fashion Nocturnal designed a sleek, sexy, ultra-modern brand inspired by contemporary fashion's most elite labels.
Like the restaurant’s interior, the visual language of the brand is a study in contrasts. Soft, sophisticated hues anchored by warm, gray neutrals and punctuated with striking harvest gold accents pair with minimal geometric shapes creating an economy of color and form that is at once subtle yet dominant. Clean, contemporary typefaces mingle freely with flowing, hand-drawn script text on menus and other printed collateral, blending old and new.
Elegant photography in subdued tones ads depth with amorphous hints of flowers, shimmering water, delicate lace, glistening tableware and exotic models. Brand systems were applied to menus, uniforms, exterior signage, interior decor, carry-out bags and containers, gift cards, comment cards and more. Nocturnal worked closely with concept developer Fred Unger and his team, including Executive Chef Justin Beckett and project architects from Allen + Philp to ensure that the Canal brand made the right emotional connection with consumers.
