Volunteer

A Learning Volunteer sharing a specimen with the public

Our volunteers are vital in supporting the Museum's work. We have a range of exciting opportunities for you to get involved both with the public and behind the scenes.

More than 500 people donate their time to engage visitors in our galleries and support our scientists and the collections.

Our volunteering, internship and work experience programmes are designed to inspire and benefit those taking part as much as they support the Museum. All opportunities have flexible commitment requirements and aim to provide a rewarding and enriching experience for all.

Work Experience Summer 2025

Our next work experience intake will be Summer 2025 where we will be offering one week placements. Applications for our Summer 2025 Work Experience programme will open in April 2025.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer any dates outside of the Summer 2025 programme.

Opportunities for volunteers are advertised in our Volunteer portal.
If no opportunities are currently shown, you can sign-up for our mailing list.

Our one-day Visiteering opportunities will give you a genuine collections-based experience and support the Museum's work. Perfect for those short on time.

Do you want to know what type of roles are available with our science collections? Behind the Seen gives you an opportunity to support our vision of a future where both people and the planet thrive.

Make the leap from visitor to volunteer by working alongside our scientists on collections-based tasks. Help bring our specimens into the twenty-first century and improve their accessibility.

Uncover stories of the natural world by interacting with visitors in the Museum's iconic galleries. Share your knowledge through hands-on interactions with real specimens.

Be part of the team responsible for managing the Museum's amazing garden as you learn more about nature and gain confidence and practical skills in gardening for wildlife.

Are you in Year 10 and up to 18 years old? Do you want to pursue a career in science, history or museum work? Spend one week away from the classroom learning about a specific job or area of museum work.

Build your skills through a career-focused internship. Internships are an intensive experience with a clear developmental journey.

The Museum at Tring, Hertfordshire has opportunities to interact with visitors in the galleries or to help out with the gardens.
