Poised at the tip of New York's Long Island, Montauk is where scruffy coastal charm meets laid-back luxury. Known as "The End", this seaside escape is a playground for surfers, nature lovers, and those seeking a beachy chic retreat from city life. Mornings begin with sunrises over the Atlantic, and evenings wind down at waterfront eateries serving just-caught seafood. Montauk’s eclectic mix of boutique hotels and buzzy beach clubs make it both timeless and trendy. As a lifelong New Yorker, I’ve had the opportunity to make many trips to Montauk and stay at plenty of its lovely hotels. Some are perfect for a relaxed beach retreat, while others deliver more of a social scene. I've found them all to be passionate about relaxation, comfort, and experiencing all that the last stop in New York has to offer. Here’s my pick of the best hotels in Montauk.

1.

Daunts Albatross Motel

Address:

44 South Elmwood Avenue

Price:

$153-$633/night

Daunt's Albatross Motel secures its spot among the best hotels in Montauk by balancing retro charm and modern comfort. Located steps from the beach, this boutique motel feels like a laid-back surf shack with a sophisticated twist.

The airy, sun-filled rooms have been recently renovated with gorgeous bathrooms and plush bedding (request the corner room for ocean views from the terrace). But the real magic happens outside. Night-time by the fire pits is my favorite, especially with complimentary s'mores kits.

For dining, The Bird, their farm-to-table spot right across the street, is a must. They serve both brunch and dinner. Daunt's offers complimentary beach cruisers for getting around town too. Whether you're here to surf, lounge, or soak up the Montauk vibe, Daunt's Albatross proves you don't need to break the bank to stay in Montauk.

2.

Aqualina Inn Montauk

Address:

20 South Elmwood Avenue

Price:

$141-$814/night

Aqualina Inn Montauk is a dreamy boutique hotel that has rightfully earned its place among the best hotels in Montauk thanks to its understated elegance and coastal vibes. The minute I check in, I always feel like I've stepped into one of the best-kept secrets in Montauk – chic but unpretentious, exactly like the locals.

The rooms are delightfully modern, with soft seaside hues, crisp linens, and spa-like showers. But the real USP here is the saltwater pool. It's the perfect spot for sipping wine and soaking up the New York summer sun.

And while the inn feels tucked away, it's just a short stroll to Montauk's lively scene, buzzing with seafood restaurants, quaint shops, and ocean views. Top tip: Aqualina Inn Montauk is across the street from Harvest, one of the best Italian restaurants in town.

3.

Ocean Resort Inn

Address:

95 South Emerson Avenue

Price:

$164-$734/night

The Ocean Resort Inn is one of the best hotels in Montauk for those who like to keep their beach escapes stunning and simple. The vibe here is classic coastal charm, with one of the most enviable stretches of beachfront in town. Rooms are bright and spotlessly clean, with pops of nautical blue that instantly give you that maritime aesthetic.

I love the oceanfront location, which is within walking distance of the funky boutiques and cafes on Montauk’s main drag. Afterward, the outdoor seating area is perfect for unwinding with a book and a glass of rosé.

Don’t forget to check out the indoor pool and hot tub. With the beach a stone's throw away and Montauk's lively downtown just a quick stroll, the Ocean Resort Inn is the ideal spot for both location and charm. Take the quick walk to Joni's for lunch – this casual eatery makes the best overstuffed sandwiches and salads.

4.

Montauk Blue Hotel

Address:

108 South Emerson Avenue

Price:

$186-$998/night

Montauk Blue Hotel is the kind of place that turns a beach trip into a legendary seaside escape. It overlooks the ocean, with one of the finest beachfront addresses in the area. I love the fact this property offers endless views of rolling waves and salty sea air.

I’m a big fan of the crisp whites and soft blues in the rooms, as well as the private patios. Steps away, the beach calls for long, sandy walks at sunrise. I love cozying up in the hot tub in the evenings or going for a dip in the indoor pool when it's not peak beach weather.

If you fancy fitting in a round of golf, Montauk Downs Public Golf Course is less than two miles from the hotel. Unpretentious and beautiful, Montauk Blue offers direct access to the ocean and all the charm of Montauk’s lively downtown area.

5.

Montauk Manor

Address:

236 Edgemere Street

Price:

$155-$1,021/night

One of the best hotels in Montauk, Montauk Manor offers a perfect blend of beachy vibes and nostalgic elegance. Perched atop a hill with sweeping views of the Atlantic and Long Island Sound, this historic gem feels like stepping into another era – one of Montauk's many glory days.

The grand Tudor-style architecture makes it a standout, but it's the little touches that won me over: spacious suites with full kitchens (hello, morning coffee with a view), beautiful gardens, and a heated outdoor pool perfect for sunset dips. Plus, their complimentary shuttle is great for zipping down to the beach.

The national landmark hotel also boasts a spa and impressive tennis courts. After a day exploring Montauk's beaches and trails, I love returning to this hotel, wine glass in hand, to watch the pastel sky fade to night.

6.

Beachcomber Resort At Montauk

Address:

727 Old Montauk Highway

Price:

$287-$1,599/night

With its breezy coastal vibes and million-dollar Atlantic views, it's no surprise the Beachcomber Resort is one of the best hotels in Montauk. Guests enjoy this laid-back resort from a hillside overlook that makes it feel like a private beach retreat. I love the kitchenettes and balconies in the suites – perfect for sunrise views and a hot cup of coffee while watching the waves.

After a lazy morning, I love wandering down to the resort's pristine beachfront. The heated outdoor pool is always my next stop.

Other guests love the tennis courts or taking out bikes to cycle the paths and trails along the island. The best part is that the Beachcomber is just minutes from Montauk's downtown and its many great restaurants and beach clubs.

7.

Haven Montauk

Address:

533 Westlake Drive, Montauk

Price:

$194-$1,690/night

Haven Montauk is another fantastic example of laid-back surf vibes blending with boutique style. Tucked away in Montauk's quiet harbor area, this cozy retreat feels like an insider secret and is one of the best boutique hotels in Montauk.

The minimalist, beachy decor has serious design magazine vibes, while the hammocks scattered across the lawn are always my favorite spots to curl up with a good book. Borrow a vintage-style bike to cruise the harbor, stopping for clam chowder along the way.

You can also post up by the outdoor pool and picnic area on a sunny afternoon if you don’t feel like taking the quick walk to the beach. The outdoor fire pits are a nightly ritual too. Haven's location offers the best of both worlds – a peaceful stay within a quick drive of downtown and the beach.

8.

The Montauk Soundview

Address:

6 Soundview Drive

Price:

$152-$1,018/night

Montauk Soundview is a postcard-perfect waterfront escape that deserves its spot among the best hotels in Montauk. Overlooking the Montauk Harbor, this property immediately lured me in with its gorgeous views of the Long Island Sound. The rooms are cozy and stylish, with beachy decor and private decks perfect for morning coffee with a view.

One of my favorite perks is the outdoor pool overlooking the water. After a day spent sampling the local delicacies at Montauk's many seafood shacks, I love hanging out on my deck to catch a legendary Montauk sunset.

If you don't feel like dining out at one of Montauk's fabulous restaurants, you can always use the hotel's barbecue grills. Bring your own charcoal and enjoy a home-cooked meal overlooking the water.

9.

Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa

Address:

290 Old Montauk Highway

Price:

$341-$5,420/night

Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa isn't just one of the best hotels in Montauk – it's an institution and one of the few luxury hotels in Montauk. Perched right on the beach, this design-forward resort is all about understated glamour. Rooms are sleek and nautical chic, with private balconies enhanced by a soundtrack of waves.

Guestrooms are bright and airy with soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the spaces with natural light. The best part of the resort is its spa. A dip in the heated saltwater pool is transformative for its Atlantic Ocean views.

The resort's beach is peppered with daybeds and a meal at on-site restaurant Scarpetta Beach is a must. The coastal Italian cuisine pairs perfectly with the panoramic ocean views.

10.

The Surf Club Resort

Address:

20 Surfside Avenue

Price:

$285-$1,038/night

The Surf Club Resort is everything you want in a Montauk getaway: effortlessly chic, relaxed, and cool. This beachfront haven, one of the best hotels in Montauk, is a perfect balance of modern luxe and beach nostalgia. Suites are spacious and airy with ocean views. I love waking up to the sound of the waves crashing just outside my window.

The resort's beach is a dream for lazy days spent soaking up the sun, but I also love indulging in poolside cocktails at the bar. In the evening, stroll down to the on-site restaurant for fresh seafood and sunset views.

But what really sets The Surf Club apart is its understated vibe – it's glamorous without trying too hard, and that's the quintessential Montauk experience.
