Songwriter ("The Wayward Wind"), composer, arranger, conductor and
pianist, educated at UCLA (Bachelor of Arts degree) and in private
music study. He was an accompanist to
Allan Jones,
Helen Traubel and
Florence Henderson and
conducted a number of touring musicals including "Guys and Dolls", "The
Boy Friend" and "Can-Can", plus the Broadway stage musicals "Half a
Sixpence", "Irma la Douce" and "Tovarich". Joining ASCAP in 1964, his
chief musical collaborator was Herb Newman and his other popular-song
compositions include "Bill Bailey, Won't You Please Come Home", "Born
in St. Louis", "Don't Go Home", "Encore", "Everybody Say 'Peace'",
"Foresight", "Gift of the Magi", "Have Half of My Laughter", "He's
Never Too Busy", "I Can't Lie", "I'll Sleep Tonight", "It's a Beautiful
World", "My Christmas Wish For You", "My Turn Next Time", "On This
Happy Occasion", "Our Happening Day", "Postlude" (from "All That
Jazz"), "The Promise of What I Could Be", "Saturday After the Game",
"Show Him the Way", "So Much in Common", "Someone I've Already Found",
"Take Off With Us" (from "All That Jazz"), "These Four Walls", "They
Can't Start Christmas Without Us", "We Can All Give Love", "Whatever
You Put Your Mind To", "You Can't Send a Toy", and "You Knew About Her
