Murphy's Place is an Edwardian weatherboard cottage with a contemporary brick extension to the rear, located in Newtown, Geelong. The house was designed by George Meek of Studio Meek Architecture and Interior Design as his own house where he lives with his partner Matt and their dog Murphy. Key motivations for the renovation works were to improve the quality of the natural light into the house, and better connect the main living spaces to the garden at the rear. A love of mid-century modern design is evident through a series of playful details incorporated into the project, such as hit and miss brick work screens and a cantilevered three sided fire place which zones the living and dining spaces. Deep forest greens and dusty pinks were used throughout the interior scheme for the house to reference the garden visually and draw the outside in.
