Located on a sprawling 2.5 acre lot, this new, custom home and detached pool house use strong geometric lines and unique materials to create a vision of modern luxury. Clad in a special charred-wood siding (using a centuries-old Japanese technique called Shou Sugi Ban), and slatted sunscreens, the structures create a dramatic and mysterious presence against the verdant landscape.
The main house snakes across the site, using large floor-to-ceiling windows to take full advantage of the expansive views. A large 'Great Room' and kitchen anchor the home, and feature a unique sunken living room and fireplace. The large master bathroom looks out onto a serene private courtyard, complete with bamboo grove and Japanese soaking tub.
The pool house was conceived as both a place of quiet respite, and stylish spot for entertaining friends. Sited on the property to maximize privacy from the street, it has a pair of extra-large sliding/pocketing doors that open out onto a new swimming pool, hot tub, terraced landscaping, and incredible views of the grounds. A perforated metal trellis along the front of the building provides a dappled quality of light, perfectly capturing the cool and relaxed vibe of the place.
