When asked for a work of art, Tate Studio Architects delivered. The only directive from the owners of this 4,500-square-foot Scottsdale home was to create something inspired and totally unique. Using the circular swimming pool as the center point of the design, every radius originates from that core and all lines perpendicular to it echo the pool’s circumference. This design choice resulted in a beautifully curved house filled with interesting angles and arcs. Composed primarily of cast-in-place concrete, basalt, recycled aluminum and reclaimed oak, this palette set the tone for the interiors. Unafraid of color, the owners opted for shades of cranberry, violet, and purple. Given the nature of the structure, counters and cabinetry had to be angled and arced to avoid looking out of place. The furnishings also had to be customized, including the crescent-shaped sofas that were built to match the curve of the great room’s exterior walls. The home’s details are what truly make it stunning, including floor-to-ceiling windows that offer pool views from all the main living spaces, reclaimed barnwood gallery floors that add a sensory element of sound, and an iridescent-chipped glass front door that shimmers in the sunlight.
