From JKA Design

When a couple of art collectors purchased a classic 1890s Victorian in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, it was the perfect opportunity for mixing old and new — and an ideal alignment with JKA’s signature blend of contemporary and vintage. Retaining beautiful details and preserving the dwelling’s historical features was very important to JKA; to that end, an ornate, original ceiling medallion in the Parlor-Living Room was restored and refinished by a local artisan, and then paired with a sleek contemporary pendant light. The furnishings are largely contemporary, to complement the couple’s ever-evolving contemporary art collection, but with a sprinkling of vintage accent pieces and an architectural “base layer” celebrating the home’s history. Rich jewel tones and a sense of playfulness can be found throughout the home — resulting in an adventurous and layered collaboration between client and designer.

*Our clients have two young children (including one crib-age baby).
