Marmol Radziner served as the Design Architect, Interior Designer, and Landscape Architect for this luxury residential high-rise located in the financial core of downtown Los Angeles. The 64-story tower, one of the tallest residential buildings in Los Angeles, includes 785 residential rental units and 5,500 square feet of commercial space. The modern rectangular bar-shaped exterior reflects an honest expression of building materials and structure, unified into a cohesive whole that closely integrates with the surrounding urban context.

“Our design is inspired by a Modernist tradition. It is a simple and honest expression of the building’s program, materiality, and structure,” said Leo Marmol, Managing Partner of Marmol Radziner. Ron Radziner, Design Partner of Marmol Radziner, adds, “The building is integrated with the adjacent streetscape and existing retail plaza, with an emphasis on its connection to the neighborhood and pedestrians. Together with the two existing office towers that flank the retail plaza, the new tower transforms it into an outdoor room available to the neighborhood residents.”

Marmol Radziner embraced the city’s temperate climate through balconies, operable glazing systems, and large outdoor spaces. The balconies create a visual texture of horizontal bands interlaced within a vertically oriented glazed facade. A dark palette complements the lighter exterior materials of the adjacent towers.

“Conceptually, the building itself is a vertical expression of the horizontal modernist aesthetic that Marmol Radziner is so well known for,” says Erika Montes, Studio Director of Interiors at Marmol Radziner. “Classic mid-century modernist materials like travertine, walnut, and bronze give the space a dramatic, earthy feel, seamlessly connecting the exterior to the interior.”

For the interiors, the firm extended its Californian presence by incorporating work from Southern California-based artists and craftsmen. Many of the furnishings are custom-made designs from Marmol Radziner’s in-house wood and metal shop, and the firm collaborated with Christoper Farr and Cirrus Gallery to showcase the work of many iconic modern designers and LA legacy artists.

Beaudry is a testament to the city’s rich architectural legacy and Marmol Radziner’s commitment to creating living spaces that are both beautiful and functional.
