From Bert Rankin
After years of searching for our perfect lake cabin, Bert and Diane Rankin came upon this iconic 1949 historic cabin in the village of Twin Lakes, CO – a truly magical place. The views of Colorado’s highest peaks, the lakes and the Historic National District out the cabin’s 93 windows is unparalleled.
The owners poured their heart and soul into a 4-month $75,000 renovation and redesign, including a modernized foodie’s dream kitchen. Alpine Haven is ready now for vacation guests to make lifetime memories.
During their extensive renovations, the owners strived to keep all of the cabin's rustic historic charm intact, choosing to go with whimsical, eclectic and colorful design themes and furnishings – with the color blue running throughout – in homage to the three surrounding lakes.
Perfectly situated on Independence Pass, halfway between Leadville and Buena Vista, Alpine Haven sits on the Colorado Trail, directly across from Colorado’s two largest natural lakes, as well as at the foot of Mount Elbert, Colorado’s tallest peak.
Bert and Diane have fallen in love with the Twin Lakes community along Independence Pass, the lifestyle and residents. Everyone they have met, including an astronaut, has been so friendly and have such interesting backgrounds. Plus, the little town of 194 residents does not take itself too seriously. One of the funniest sights, is the gas station and country store, named, “Pass Gas.”
Whether you come for the views and a restorative retreat, or to experience the ultimate Colorado Adventure – hiking Mount Elbert or taking the 2 provided kayaks across the lake to the 1870’s Interlaken Resort Park – Alpine Haven has all of the breathtaking views, luxury upgrades, and amenities to make your stay a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
