DODOMA, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Thursday directed relevant authorities to assess and repair infrastructure, including roads and bridges, damaged by ongoing heavy rains across the country.
Answering questions in the parliament in the capital of Dodoma, Majaliwa particularly directed the Tanzania National Roads Agency and the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency to assess and rehabilitate damaged roads and bridges across the country.
"The government is taking measures to ensure that infrastructure damaged by the rains is restored to enable people to carry on with their economic activities," he said.
Meanwhile, Majaliwa urged people living along valleys to vacate and resettle in high-ground areas because the rains are still ongoing and could cause disastrous consequences.
The current rains have killed scores of people and left thousands homeless after destroying houses, farm crops, roads, and bridges in different parts of the country. Enditem
