BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
SCIENTIFIC MISSION
A scientific expedition team of Chinese and foreign scientists set sail on Saturday from Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, to conduct a 45-day scientific mission in the Western Pacific Ocean.
According to Xu Xuewei, chief scientist of the mission and deputy director of the National Deep Sea Center, the team will conduct its mission in the Magellan Seamounts in the Western Pacific Ocean, which is regarded as a priority area for future deep-sea biodiversity conservation.
"SUPER MICROSCOPES"
Over 500 Chinese experts gathered at a conference in Lanzhou, northwest China's Gansu Province, from Wednesday to Friday, to explore the integrated use of the Hefei Light Source (HLS) and the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), two large scientific facilities dubbed as "super microscopes" to probe the structure of the microscopic world.
The HLS is the first synchrotron light source in China, while the CSNS is the country's first and the world's fourth pulsed spallation neutron source.
ANCIENT TOMBS
A total of 148 tombs from various periods were excavated in a zoo of Guangzhou, the capital of south China's Guangdong Province, between April and July this year, said the Guangzhou Municipal Institute of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology.
Among them, four tombs were from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD), eight tombs were from the Jin and Southern Dynasties (265-589), 15 tombs were from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and 121 tombs were from the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911). Enditem
