The Purpletop verbena (Verbena incompta) belongs to Verbenaceae (the Verbena family). It is a perennial herb that is native to South America. This herb grows in waste lands, cultivated areas or on roadsides and can reach 50-150 cm in height. The stem and branches are erect and conspicuously quadrangular. The leaves are broad-linear to narrow-elliptic with subauriculate bases. The corymbose spikes are borne on the terminal branches and bloom blue to reddish purple flowers from June to September.
