[Image: “Historical Monument of the American Republic” by Erastus Salisbury Field].
I just spent far too much time clicking around on Archi/Maps, where—amongst dozens of other images—this painting by Erastus Salisbury Field, showing a proposal for an “Historical Monument of the American Republic,” seemed worth a quick post.
Check out related images under the “utopia” or “monument” tags.
There are things one is glad were never built.
I have a feeling that's what the critics really wanted the Eisenhower Memorial to look like.
Hi Geoff. Sorry this is off topic but do you know of any underground cities in Florida, please?
PS: Love your website.
Anonymous, I don't know of any, outside of urban drain systems; but the water table is so high in Florida that it makes any substantial underground construction very difficult, throughout the state. More interesting, perhaps, are the region's many, many, many sinkholes and underwater caves.
