I've been wanting to start my own photo dump and general chit chat thread about my journey with my Marans and mixed flock. So here it is...
I started getting serious about my breeding adventure within the last year or so and I've got a lot to learn yet, and I couldn't have gotten this far without the help of so many members here on BYC and I'm so thankful for all that I have learned so far...

There's no way I can do a storyline of this chaos so expect a mish mash of pics, some sarcasm and goofy comments and hopefully give and take some help along the way.

To start is my 2 main flocks at present, First is my mixed flock of 9 girls with their roo King (Black Copper Marans) and the other is the Black Copper Marans flock of 9 girls and their roo Kong, with a whole lot of chick pics to come.

Easter Sunday '24..…My first official incubator hatch of test mates of Marans. All sired by Kong.
I set 8 from my darkest layer Joannie (F0), 7 from her daughter Angel (F1) and 7 from Betty (F0) an all black BCM.
Not a good hatch rate 8/22....
Got 4 from Joannie's (F1)
Got 3 from Betty's (F1)
And my first and only (F2) from Angel... (Think grandbaby ) I'm keeping this one for sure, so I named her 'Harmony'.

At 4 days old I moved them out to their new brooder coop which is adjacent to the Marans coop in the Pole Barn.
This was slightly nerve racking being my first time moving babies out that young in Michigan winter but worked flawlessly in the end.

These 2 pics are of Kong and the girls checking out the brooder coop while I was doing final prep for the babies arrival (for reference) The paneling above the door and to the right in last pic is temporary covering hardware cloth to keep heat in.

Its fun to live out our dreams, especially with chicken breeds. Life is short, finish that bucket list!

Kong sure is a beauty, cute babies, can't wait to see them grow!
