Is it normal for a flock of 4 hens to lay one egg per day or at times none at all? I still haven’t found which of the ladies are laying eggs but yesterday there were three. Today, there were no new eggs laid.

Totally normal for many different reasons. Some have already been mentioned. A big one is that each chicken is an individual. Some may lay an egg a day for several days in a row before they skip a day. Some may lay every other day or even less. Weather, time of year, or stress can cause them to reducer laying. With four hens some of us will average three or more eggs a day in prime egg laying seasons. Some four hen flocks may average one or two. Sometimes they will not lay any.

Sometimes you are getting fewer eggs than you should because something is getting the eggs. Many critters will eat them but most leave signs behind, eggshells or wet spots. I don't know where you are located (that could help us on many questions) but the main critters that get eggs without leaving a trace where I am are snakes, canines, and humans.

A snake visits and eats eggs (could be by day or night) and stays away a couple of days while it digests them. With you getting three eggs yesterday and none today it might be a snake if that is a pattern.

A coyote or fox would probably be more interested in your hens but a dog can eat eggs and leave the hens alone. Does a dog have access?

A human does not have to mean a stranger. Often it is someone you know.

Chances are it is just a variation with your flock, happens all the time. But you might discretely mark an egg or two and leave them down there for a few days. If they disappear then you know something is getting them.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your responses!

For those asking my location, I am in Puerto Rico.

I am glad to know the flock is producing normally.
