This is rex. We arent sure what breed he is because his father lives with 6 hens and the mom who hatched him also hatched other hens eggs. Rex has 10 (or more) siblings. He is a couple weeks old. He is currently in a crate with food and water that has antibiotics mixed in. As i am typing this, he is on a towel on my bed with 2 fluffy socks draped over him (Because he was shaking, and presumably cold) He is a runt. Very small compared to his siblings. There are about 2 other runts in that litter. His poops are good, normal and solid so far. He has a minor balance issue, he will stand and walk around for 5 seconds give or take and then fall to the side with his wing stretched out, but he can get up and walk after that, he has a tiny limp too. He has a weird looking forehead that almost looks like those droopy beagles lol. One of our friends suggested it may be a crested chicken, and one of our hens is crested, but im not sure because the crested chicks look much more... formed. The poof on their head is a circle, his is like a droopy forehead wrinkle. His neck is dry and has a couple black lumps on it, possibly ingrown feathers. He is sweet, but always puffed up. I was planning on giving him some egg yolk with a small amount of green tea and probiotics mixed in because i saw people saying it works well for chicks. But id like to know if this poor chick is worth saving, sadly. If its a tumor, im really not sure if i can help it. The forehead is also concering. i attached some pics of him from the front, side, and top veiw along with a pic of his neck so you can see what i mean. his beak is kinda droopy too.

what kind of antibiotics are in the water? antibiotics need to be dosed correctly so i’m not sure putting them in water is good.
also use a heat source such as a lamp or a little heating pad hut that he can go in and out under instead of covering him with anything. use a thermometer to keep a good temp of about 80 degrees but like i said he needs to have a space also where he can cool off if he feels too warm. he’s very cute. I wonder if the other chicks have been picking on him? I am definitely not a chicken expert. I’m more of a duck person so I’ll let the chicken experts help you. I just had a couple ideas about the heat and wonder what the antibiotic is.

We put a tiny sprinkle of regular antibotic into food mixed with water. i went and got chicken probiotics and chicken electrolytes and i am going to mix it with a yolk and weak green tea because i saw people saying it helped their sick babies recover fastly.

Welcome To BYC

Please, tell us about the medication. You are sprinkling "regular antibiotic" - what is the name of the medication?

What Type of feed are you feeding, is it chick starter?

Photos of the chick's poop?

Photos of the chick standing on a hard surface front and back so we can see the position of the legs?

Does the chick lose her balance when walking on a hard non-slippery surface?

Where do you normally keep the chick - in a brooder? Can you get photos of that?

Do you see any crawling bugs on the chick?

The head, does it feel solid, fluid filled, hard, soft, air filled, squishy?

Where are you located in the world?

Hopefully with some more information, we can offer better suggestions.

In the meantime, keep the chick warm. Encourage her to keep hydrated and eating.

Im not sure what the antibotic was, it was a teal pill with lime yellow powder inside. My mom gave the chick it and just said it was antibotics. But now i am using specifically chicken probiotics.

Chick is on purina medicated chick started for now, i thought because it says medicated it will help the sick chick heal.

As for photos its late and my lights are too good, so i dont think i can get any tonight. I will get photos tomorrow. (Chick is also sleeping on my chest right now lol )

She doesnt "slip", she more limps slightly and then falls to her side (mainly her left) and stretches her left wing down to ground, for support i assume.

Right now when im asleep she is in a travel crate (for small dogs and such) with food, water, straw, and one of my shirts draped over her for warmth. I dont think she is young enough to need to be in a heat lamp? i am not sure of her exact age... i think she is a month old maybe. She isnt fully feather yet, if that helps guess the age.

No bugs.

i dont want to squeeze her head,,, im afraid i will injure her.

I am in america, on the west coast in a valley/foresty area. weather is hot during summer and cold and rainy during fall/winter.

I mixed some of the yolk slurry with her food, and she enjoyed it she dosent like to drink alot of water. i got her to drink maybe 10 sips today by putting some water on her beak.

she is making a peeping noise. Wish i could attach a video of it. its not loud, but not quiet. its high pitched, with a slight beak click/tapping noise. Does this mean she is cold? hot? sick? stressed? I tried wrapping her in a shirt and she started overheating, so i removed her quickly and gave her water. Ill do my best!

Oh, I don't want you to squeeze her head, just feel of the lump and let us know what it feels like, you should be able to tell.

In the U.S. most medicated chick starters contain a very small amount Amprolium/Amprol, this medication is used to treat Coccidiosis, it's not an antibiotic, so it will not treat bacterial infections.

At her age, if she's inside, she may not need any supplemental heat.

I look forward to the photos. If you have video, upload that to YouTube and provide a link.

It's good that she is eating wet feed, that will help keep her hydrated some.

Is she the only chick you have?

Its morning and i have the photos!
I went to put her in her crate but she threw a fit and snuggled close to me, so i made her a little bed out of a spare box and put it on my bed. She slept all night and made a couple happy noises!

here is her eating, drinking, and her bed as requested (with some poop in it, which i think was also requested. dont worry im cleaning it up!) Her poos seem normal. The normal amount of white in it and its not runny or rockhard. Does she look better?
edit: during the day she is out on my bed on a shirt/ towel so she can run around and excerise her legs/wings. i dont keep her in her bed all day lol

We have alot of her siblings. They are bigger, and one of our frizzles just hatched out 2 babies. When it gets warmer out i will take her out to socialize with her siblings She cant be sleeping next to them because they trample over her. i havent seen them peck her but when they get excited they will walk/run over her... they are bigger (and heavier) and im afraid thats how she got her walking issues. she seems to be happy and moving around this morning!
