My coop!

After years of begging my dad to build my chickens a new coop it was finally finished last November!And…..here it is!

It looked more like this last year
I’ve had to make a few modifications. The water bucket dry-rotted and had to be replaced.A chicken flew out and narrowly escaped the dogs so on went the netting!I also hung up the new signs and put on the automatic door(which no longer works). The run is Retriever brand dog kennel panels that are buried to prevent predators from digging in. Here’s the link for my review on the panels:https://www.backyardchickens.com/reviews/retriever-dog-kennel.12137/ .My dad started the coop by leveling the ground and laying down 4 concrete blocks.Next he put down a sheet of plywood. He made the walls about 10 feet high so I had him cut off a few feet.He screwed on metal sheets to be the roof. For the door he glued pieces of wood together and screwed that onto the hinges.Finishing up he added perches,a door handle and latch, and put a grate between the run and the coop so they couldn’t escape under the coop. Now for a picture of the interior.

The feeder is now hanging up ,because they kept spilling food. Now for the most important part,my chickens!I have a a pair of Mille Fleur D’uccles:Luke who is gorgeous and sassy and Leia who is scared of the others ,is SO friendly to me, and has a cross-beak.I also have 9 standard hens and pullets .My barred Rock and Easter Egger are both 9 years old and very sweet old ladies. My Columbian Wyandotte is about 5 and broody every spring and summer. My Wyandotte/Orpington hybrid that I hatched 4 years ago is almost as broody as the Wyandotte. And now the pullets who have old lady names!Winnie is my sweet Buff Orpington and is very mild mannered.I have two Prairie Bluebell Eggers,Gertie and Dottie.Dottie is pretty flighty and has a mild parrot beak.Gertie is a very pretty Blue and kind of mysterious.Lilian the Starlight green Egger is the smallest standard but can stand up for herself.Last of all my Rhode Island Red,Fern who is mild mannered to be a RIR.

Thanks for reading!I hope you enjoyed learning about my flock and coop! Please leave a review!

It is a nice coop! The chickens are very pretty.

The article would be better with more build details.

It's a gorgeous coop and run, and chickens too. Love the tips you've learned about hanging feeders, etc. Great pictures!

Better coop articles are ones we can build too, so maybe ask your dad to give you some detail to provide instructions on some of what he built.

Floor plans and materials lists are bonus.

It would be nice to see more details on how the coop was built.

My dad built it and I don’t remember much but I’ll add what I do know!
