60+ Epic Science Art

I freaking love Science. There is no secret there. I have always “liked” Science my entire life ever since I was in 3rd grade learning about the few planets we knew of at the time. Since then my like for science turned into a love, and over the past few years it has evolved into a stronger love (almost a LUST for Science haha). So I decided to meld my love for science with my love for art in this post to show you some truly beautiful works of art inspired by Science by some awesome artists today! Before we dive in lets take a look at what “Science Art” is to me.

What Is Science Art?

In the past few decades I believe that a new breed of artist and scientist is being created before our very eyes. An individual that not only has a love for art and design (how things work, and look) they are also harboring a fascination of the Sciences as well. Real Renaissance Men (and women!) are being created these days, and I love it. I would almost go so far as to say that every person labeled as a “Geek” these days has a unique mixture of both of these traits (Science & Art Lovers) to varying degrees!

Let us take a look at the definition of Science.

Science (from Latin scientia, meaning “knowledge”) is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe. In an older and closely related meaning (found, for example, in Aristotle), “science” refers to the body of reliable knowledge itself, of the type that can be logically and rationally explained (see History and philosophy below). Since classical antiquity science as a type of knowledge was closely linked to philosophy. In the early modern era the words “science” and “philosophy” were sometimes used interchangeably in the English language. By the 17th century, natural philosophy (which is today called “natural science”) was considered a separate branch of philosophy. However, “science” continued to be used in a broad sense denoting reliable knowledge about a topic, in the same way it is still used in modern terms such as library science or political science.

In modern use, “science” more often refers to a way of pursuing knowledge, not only the knowledge itself. It is “often treated as synonymous with ‘natural and physical science’, and thus restricted to those branches of study that relate to the phenomena of the material universe and their laws, sometimes with implied exclusion of pure mathematics. This is now the dominant sense in ordinary use.” This narrower sense of “science” developed as scientists such as Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton began formulating laws of nature such as Newton’s laws of motion. In this period it became more common to refer to natural philosophy as “natural science”. Over the course of the 19th century, the word “science” became increasingly associated with the scientific method, a disciplined way to study the natural world, including physics, chemistry, geology and biology. It is in the 19th century also that the term scientist was created by the naturalist-theologian William Whewell to distinguish those who sought knowledge on nature from those who sought knowledge on other disciplines. The Oxford English Dictionary dates the origin of the word “scientist” to 1834. This sometimes left the study of human thought and society in a linguistic limbo, which was resolved by classifying these areas of academic study as social science. Similarly, several other major areas of disciplined study and knowledge exist today under the general rubric of “science”, such as formal science and applied science.

(TL;DR? lol) Ok so basically Science refers to the natural world (physics, chemistry, geology and biology, etc.). So today we are showcasing some of the most creative Art by some great artists across a few different mediums (print, photography, illustrations, etc.) that we have seen in a while regarding the Scientific world! If you are a geek, you are sure to be inspired (heck you might even learn something!) by these pieces. I think they are great because not only are they beautiful and geeks like me truly appreciate stuff like this – but it shows people who might not be so hip to science how amazing it is. The future is science! So spread the word. If you aren’t designing something at the moment, I hope this inspires you to get creative, or at the very least go out and do some science! DO IT! DO THE SCIENCE! haha I hope you guys ENJOY!!!

Dang Nucleus, You Are Freaking Beautiful.

In this segment designed by MRK, we see 10 to the power of minus 5. We travel through a capillary into a world of red and white blood cells, to find a lone lymphocyte whose membrane we penetrate to finally reach its porous nucleus.

These artificial organisms are based on actual unicellular organisms known as Diatoms. These beautiful microscopic creatures are constructed using the superformula, an equation that can reproduce organic forms.

Awesome Science Museum Re-brand

Our Anatomy is amazing in so many different ways.

Who knew bacteria could be so adorable!?

Speaking of adorable germs – This Microbes Plush Toy of the Flu is so cute!!!! lol

Our eyes are just a part of our anatomy, but they show how beautiful nature can be! What can explain this beauty?! SCIENCE!

I love these geeky science love posters haha

Bahaha

Crikey, She’s GORGEOUS!

When I was a kid, the illustrations in our science text books were no where near this detailed, and this is a Resume!! It isn’t even in a text book! lol

The Fungus Kingdom! Awesome Illustration – this definitely would have made me more interested in the world of mushrooms had I seen this as a kid in science class haha
