What is this site all about?
AllMovie is a comprehensive and in-depth resource for finding out more about the movies, actors and filmmakers you love. We offer different ways for our users to explore and discover all kinds of cool info about movies including keeping up-to-date on new release information, browsing filmographies, rating your favorite films and exploring everything about movies.
Where do you get your information in your database?
Allmovie uses a data provider called Fabric Origin. Fabric Origin works with hundreds of content creators worldwide to get information right from the source. Their team of dedicated acquisition people constantly adds the latest and greatest titles across the media landscape.
I see a star rating associated with movies on the site. What is that and why does the number sometimes change?
Fabric Origin has created its rating system to help us sort content and show you what they see as best. They do this by looking at several factors such as contributors to a title and their past successes, box office performance, awards, countries it is opening in, marketing push for that title, trailer plays, social media presence, and more. If a movie is currently in a theatrical run, you might see a lower number until more marketing materials are made available and it starts having box office numbers and later awards.
What happened to the reviews and DVD info that used to be on AllMovie?
We've had to move to a different data provider and some of the features and functions on the site are evolving. A rich level of detail about movies is still available, including some new features that will be possible as we work with this new company.
The genre structure is slightly different, but now displays specific categories for Animation, Documentaries, Biography, Silent Film, and Anime.
Additionally, we're able to show users different "Collections" of films which include groupings like Dreamworks Animated Films, Universal Classic Monsters, Studio Ghibli, John Grisham, Agatha Christie, William Shakespeare, Harry Potter, and The Skywalker Saga as a new way to explore cinema.
Plus, we now offer more detail about where movies can be streamed for free, via subscription services, rented or available to own.
While some elements like reviews, moods, and DVD info are no longer possible, we're still working to build out new functions and features for users in the upcoming months.
I am a movie, TV or game creator/distributor/agent and want to get my content in your database. How do I submit the information and trailer for my content?
If you are a movie studio, distributor, supplier, or in the film industry, please see the information on our product submissions page.
I am a movie or TV contributor/performer/director. Why is there a page with my name on it and a photo on it?
Our data provider Fabric Origin receives contributor information on movies and TV shows and from that, create a filmography on the millions of people who have acted, directed, produced or written content for movies and TV shows. They also aggregate publicly available information to get any other details about the people in our database. If they receive press photos, they use content recognition software to identify people who they can and then add their photos. If you were involved in a production and listed as a cast member, this is a fact and they do not remove facts from the database.
I would like to submit or change information about me on the site.
Our data provider Fabric Origin always strives to maintain accurate information. Their policy is never to remove factual information (see question above), but if you spot inaccurate title or contributor information or you are a distributor, content creator, or licensor of content and have additional metadata to supply, please email us at [email protected]. They cannot guarantee that they will update contributor information as they do not offer full cast and crew lists and they must verify the information too.
Can I submit my headshot to be added to your contributor pages?
At this time, Fabric Origin does not allow uploads of headshots as they cannot verify copyright ownership. They have licensed headshots from a service and are happy with our coverage.
What is the value of registering with AllMovie? Why would I create a login and password?
By creating an account with us, you'll have the opportunity to "Favorite" your favorite movies and filmmakers, as well as being able to rate movies (1 star for something you hated, 5 stars for something you loved).
I've rated some movies and favorited some people. In the words of Edwin Starr: what is it good for?
Rating movies and marking filmmakers and actors as your "Favorites" all factor into giving you personalized recommendations for more movies you may be interested in. There are so many films out there, it can be difficult to wade through it all to find the stuff worth checking out. By letting us know some of your likes and dislikes, we can start offering suggestions in the Recommendations For You section.
I'd like to see what I've rated or marked as a favorite, where can I do that?
As of now, you'll need to click on your name in the upper right corner (if you're logged in), and then look at the information on those pages.
Why are there ads on the site?
AllMovie is a free site that relies on ad revenue in order to help keep the lights on. We're trying to keep the ads relevant to movie fans so that they don't seem too intrusive.
What about TV information?
We also have a cool sister site called Sidereel that allows you to find and watch TV shows as well as getting more info on when shows are airing.
You know what would be cool on the site? This thing I just thought of. How can I submit a feature request for something I'd like to see on AllMovie?
Feature requests or any feedback can be sent here.
I noticed something is wrong. How can I submit a correction?
The metadata and information on AllMovie comes from our data provider, Fabric. You may submit artist- and movie-related corrections to Fabric by emailing them at [email protected].
What does an AllMovie subscription offer? Can I remove Ads?
By subscribing to support AllMovie you receive a number of benefits including an ad-free experience, the
website loading faster, and you'll get a warm feeling knowing that you're helping to support a site that
has been providing movie information for decades. More detail is available on oursubscribe
page.
AllMovie uses Stripe and PayPal to manage the payment side of things. We don't
hang onto your credit card information.
Payment is $12 USD for one entire year. We are not
doing recurring payments at this time, but we notify you on the site when your subscription is nearly
expired.
If you'd like to subscribe for an additional year, visit the Paid Subscription page in
your user account and enter in your credit card information again.
If your credit card has a
charge listed as "Netaktion" it is because you have signed up to become anAllMovie
or AllMusic or SideReel Subscriber to receive an ad-free and faster website experience.
As is
stated in our Terms of Service (section 3.5), we are
unable to provide refunds on annual subscriptions after purchase.
There are some things to
note:
Becoming a subscriber does not give access to stream movies, to upload movies, download movies, or alter the editorial content (reviews and release dates) provided on AllMovie.
Subscribing does not guarantee uptime or that the site will never have hiccups. If the site craps out, we're all in the same boat.
I am a subscriber, why am I still seeing ads?
It could be any number of things:
If you've just logged in, your browser may still be
caching the pages you've already been to. Try doing ahard
refresh of the page orclearing your browser
cache.
Make sure you're logged in and your
subscription has not expired.
A couple of other things to troubleshoot the
issue:
- Are you seeing ads while logged in and visiting a page you've never been before?
Like this random page:https://www.allmovie.com/movie/random-v548291 - Do you get ads if you are logged in and add a "?test" to the end of the URL and hit enter?
Or follow this link: https://www.allmovie.com?test - Do you get ads if you log in on a different browser?
