Whether you are a member of the WLBPD or not AADL also offers a variety of events and tools to improve access for our community.
Sensory Storytime
A special storytime that includes 20 minutes of interactive stories, rhymes, and movement, plus 40 minutes of adaptive free play. These events are designed for young listeners with developmental disabilities and their friends and families.
Universal Gaming Carts
AADL’s Universal Gaming Carts provide options for people with disabilities to participate in Wii U and Xbox 360 gaming using adaptive controllers alongside their non-disabled peers. Carts are available for checkout, with delivery provided, to schools and non-profits. Call (734) 327-4224 or email [email protected], for more information.
Public Computer Stations on Elevator Tables
Currently at Malletts Creek, Westgate, Downtown, and Pittsfield branches, these tables move up or down by a remote control that is connected to the table.
Downtown Assistive Technology Lab
AADL's AT Lab is equipped with a large screen Mac computer, an iPad Pro loaded with accessibility apps, a PC with JAWS, NVDA and Kurzweil text-to-speech software, and a black and white printer. These devices are all situated on an adjustable elevator table that has electronic control at the table. AT assistance on this equipment is available by appointment, by calling (734) 327-4224 or emailing [email protected].
Rehan i-See HD HD CCTV Magnifier
CCTV Magnifiers are now located in the public computer lab space at four of our branches (Malletts Creek, Pittsfield, Traverwood and Westgate), with the downtown magnifier residing on the second floor. High-definition image can reduce eye fatigue and the sea-sick sensation that some users may feel after long periods of time using standard resolution magnifier.
Low-Vision Aides
Each AADL location has a supply of bar, hand-held, and LED lighted magnifiers available for use while inside the library.
T Loop Hearing Aid Assist
Each AADL location has a program room equipped with T Loop technology providing assistive listening for individuals with telecoil-equipped hearing aids and cochlear implants.
CART and Sign-Language Interpretation
With advanced notice, communication access and realtime translation or sign-language interpretation services, will be made available for AADL programs.
