Originally conceived as a gateway to meditation, the spiraling ambiance of Spermwhales doesn't feature any nature recordings, but the natural world is most definitely present. The debut from the Maryland-based ambient artist, The Seven Openings of the Head, hints at the tropi-waves ridden by Ducktails, but veers left, trading surf dotted melodies for hyper-dimensional exploration before catching the last boat to tripper's island.

While Mimoun, Sawyer and Brody played together for the first time in months the night before, their live radio jam was the first time all four original members of Family Portrait had played together since the inaugural Underwater Peoples Summer Showcase in August of 2009. Familiar faces sat indian style on the floor in awe. A few choice words from some in attendance:

"It was a heavy session fueled with heavy smoke blasts and riffs, cyclical and meditative like a balloon that keeps floating upward." Matt Mondanile

"I couldn't see much of anything because there was so much smoke, but I'm pretty sure there were about 10,000 people in the studio that day -- not to mention all the tailgate parties in front of the high school outside." A huddled mass of spectators glared up at me, wide-eyed, and almost cautionary. Dark Magic was brewing. The Report was intended to be made-to-order, however, in trying to plan ahead for any postal misfortunes, airmail vanishings or Earth shattering catastrophes, I produced 200 copies of the Report, 28 more than the 172 orders (which includes copies for contributors). I'm going to keep a few for myself (just 3). The remaining 20 (a few copies may still be at the Mexican Summer Co-Op, 1 or 2) are currently for sale at The-Report.org, or by simply clicking this hyper-link.McGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08187798938516593864[email protected]0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051464389076443768.post-24654464627003686622010-03-13T11:57:00.000-08:002010-04-12T09:41:37.363-07:00001-003|Twin Sister|Alex Bleeker|Run DMTIt's a pleasure for me to finally announce the incarnation of The Curatorial Club, a new project-based imprint specializing in producing and releasing a wide variety of unique projects. The first batch finds us curating releases by three of our favorite young recording acts; Twin Sister, Alex Bleeker and Run DMT.

Twin Sister's Alternates (TCC 001) is a 30 minute collection of demos from their Vampires with Dreaming Kids EP and the soon-to-be-released EP Color Your Life. Recorded over the past couple of years, the songs shed light on Twin Sister's influences, while giving unique insight into their evolution as a band. The band has 25 copies of the tape on tour, others will be made to order through The Curatorial Club. The cassette is an invitation to view the work in progress, to hear loose picking evolving into the skeletal framework for songs like "Summer," which Bleeker notes "was literally the first time i had played it." "The first thing ["Mad Dog"] was something I did randomly on Matt's 8-track while I was waiting for him to get ready to leave. Then I found the handheld in my closet a few days ago because I wanted to record the last 'song' on there...It spans from December '08 to now."

Sold Out (May be available at Bleeker shows)

The third release in the first batch from The Curatorial Club is Run DMT's physical debut. A new batch, featuring a new mix, as well as different new, never-before-heard tracks, as well as "Spruce Bringsteen", is now available. This batch will be made to order.
