MOSCOW, December 30. /TASS/. Moscow demands that international organizations duly react to the blocking of Russian media Telegram channels in EU countries, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
"We demand that relevant international structures give a proper assessment to such actions," she said, adding that, above all, Russia expects a reaction from UN human rights mechanisms, the UNESCO leadership and the OSCE representative on freedom of the media.
"Such attacks on our media outlets will not remain without a reaction from the Russian side. We reserve the right to symmetrical response measures," the Russian diplomat noted.
Zakharova noted that blocking a Russian news outlet is seen as the reinforcement of the West’s policy to suppress any hotspots of dissent in spite of all international obligations in the area of ensuring free access to information and the diversity of opinions in the media.
Additionally, she thinks that depriving EU citizens of the opportunity to independently shape their opinion about global events grossly tramples on fundamental human rights to freedom of opinion and expression and dismantles the foundations of democratic society.
