Initial checklist
To begin, verify that:
- Your Nest speaker or display is powered on.
- Your Nest speaker or display is plugged into a wall outlet.
- You're in the same room as your Nest speaker or display.
- When you say âHey Google,â does it provide any audio verbal response? Do the LED lights trigger when you say âHey Google?â
General troubleshooting
If you've checked off all of the steps above and the device still doesn't play the test sound, try one of the steps below and then check for the sound. If there's still no test sound, move to the next step.
Step 1. On your device, turn volume to halfway or higher.
After adjusting the volume, tap Try again in the Google Home app to play the test sound again. Continue to adjust the volume if the device still doesnât play the test sound.
Step 2. Reboot the device.
- Disconnect the power cable from your speaker or display.
- Reconnect power cable back into your speaker or display.
Step 3. Factory reset your Nest speaker or display.

Step 4. Try to set up your Nest speaker or display again.
