Social Media Team members are experienced and trusted Wookieepedians who have been elected by the community to manage Wookieepedia's official social media presence on several platforms. The below users have access to one or more of Wookieepedia's accounts, and you can contact them with your questions regarding our social media presence. Please note that members may not be part of the Wookieepedia administration.

Official social media accounts

Social media accounts not on this list are not affiliated with Wookieepedia.

Responsibilities

Social Media Team members are Wookieepedia users with access to the site's social media accounts, as listed above. They are expected to use these privileges responsibly to represent Wookieepedia to the wider Star Wars community and attract new contributors.

Posting content

  • Social Media Team members may post general Star Wars or Wookieepedia-related content on the site's accounts. Common examples of posts include, but are not limited to:
    • …posts about Lucasfilm Star Wars creators.
    • …posts that detail Star Wars lore.
    • …posts that detail upcoming Star Wars releases or celebrate the anniversaries of previously published works.
    • …posts that feature Wookieepedia's status articles, after they complete the nomination process.
    • …posts that cross-release content made for one of Wookieepedia's other social media platforms, such as announcing the release of new audio articles or interviews originally published to Wookieepedia's YouTube channel.
    • …posts that announce collaborations between Wookieepedia and other entities after their approval by the administration, as defined by the partnerships clause of Wookieepedia:Administrators.
  • The Social Media Team is encouraged to work alongside the site's administrators to better represent Wookieepedia's interests. Regarding statements made on the site's collective behalf (e.g. "Wookieepedia stands with…," "We support/denounce…"):
    • In ideal circumstances, no individual Social Media Team member should release a statement purporting to represent the collective Wookieepedia community; instead, a consensus of the team is optimal. If an exceptional situation requires immediate action and only one Social Media Team member is present to handle the issue, the team member is encouraged to seek advice from Wookieepedia's administrators before proceeding.
    • For non-urgent matters, the Social Media Team should be contacted (e.g. a ping on Discord)—with each member asked to respond and given the opportunity to participate in relevant discussions—and come to a majority agreement. Though not required, the Social Media Team is encouraged to seek the advice of the rest of the administration when circumstances necessitate it. If a Social Media Team member is on a hiatus (e.g. using {{Vacation}}), the team need not wait for outstanding responses after a period of 2 days.
  • Original content created by Social Media Team members for Wookieepedia's social media platforms—in any format—is the intellectual property of Wookieepedia. Wookieepedia retains the ownership and copyright of said content following a Social Media Team member's departure from their position, meaning it may remain visible on the site's accounts at the discretion of the remaining Social Media Team members. Exceptions include content posted on Wookieepedia's social media accounts that are owned by other copyright holders—such as derivatives or direct copies of official images or fan-made images—which may be taken down at the copyright holder's request.

Point of contact

  • Wookieepedia's social media accounts should make a best effort to answer questions asked of the site, serving as a point of contact.
  • Social Media Team members are encouraged to consult their colleagues for advice on how to engage positively with the wider Star Wars community when necessary; team members are expected to acknowledge when it is best to step away from a situation and allow those less involved in an ongoing incident to provide a fresh perspective.
  • Social Media Team members may choose to procure interviews of Star Wars creators, as defined by Wookieepedia:Interviews. If a creator has not responded to an initial inquiry, Wookieepedia's social media accounts should not send them consecutive messages unless the creator has requested to be reminded or scheduling is already underway.
  • Social Media Team members are expected to abide by the Privacy policy, particularly the provisions defining the protections offered to private communications sent to the site's social media accounts.
  • Social Media Team members are required to ask for explicit consent before posting about individual Wookieepedians on the site's social media platforms, such as for user rights promotions or awards such as Wookieepedian of the Month. The subject of the post must be given a draft of the post to review, be informed what platform(s) the post(s) will be made on, and be informed that they may request the removal of post(s) made about them at any time.
  • When interacting with members of the wider Star Wars community via Wookieepedia's social media accounts, Social Media Team members should use clean and professional language.

Account management

  • Accounts should be managed under the Social Media Team's email, [email protected].
  • Social media accounts should be periodically updated to reflect:
    • The current site logo, to match the version used on Wookieepedia itself.
    • Wookieepedia's article count, upon reaching new milestones.
    • Any missing links to new social media accounts created for Wookieepedia.
  • In most circumstances, private communications between Wookieepedia's social media accounts and the wider Star Wars community or Lucasfilm Star Wars creators should not be deleted without consensus from the rest of the Social Media Team to preserve a historical record of the site's messages with individuals and organizations. Exceptions apply for messages consisting of blatant spam or other content that violates the user conduct policy (e.g. messages that only attack the site/its members), which may be deleted at will provided they have not been responded to.
  • No Social Media Team member may modify another member's access to Wookieepedia's social media accounts, either temporarily or permanently, unless the majority consent of the Social Media Team is obtained.
    • Prior to a Wookieepedia:Requests for removal of user rights, the remaining members of Wookieepedia's Social Media Team are expected to secure the accounts on the site's behalf by revoking social media account access to the Social Media Team member who is the subject of the impending vote. By doing so, this prevents the accounts from being lost to a potentially demoted community member. If the Social Media Team member retains their position after the vote's conclusion, the remaining members of the team are obligated to promptly assist them with restoring their prior permissions.

Account creation

  • New social media accounts for Wookieepedia should be created following community approval via the Forum:Consensus track.
  • Upon the creation of new accounts:
    • The account should be added to the "Official social media accounts" section above and the site's contact page.
    • The account should be appropriately linked to Wookieepedia's existing social media accounts.
    • The login information should be made available to the other members of the Social Media Team.
    • The creation of the account should be announced in Wookieepedia's Discord server.

Membership

Experienced and trusted Wookieepedians may be nominated and elected by the community to become Social Media Team members. To be eligible, you must meet the requirements listed on Requests for Social Media Team membership.

A request for Social Media Team membership ("RFSMT") lasts for two weeks, after which a member of the team will be inducted and assisted with accessing Wookieepedia's social media accounts. In extreme circumstances, Social Media Team members who have demonstrated a deliberate abuse of their powers over a prolonged period of time or have failed to remain active in their duties can be removed from their position via Wookieepedia:Requests for removal of user rights.
