About PathSolutions TotalView

PathSolutions TotalView network monitoring and troubleshooting software bridges the gap between NETWORK MONITORING and TROUBLESHOOTING RESOLUTION telling you WHEN, WHERE and WHY network errors occur. PathSolutions TotalView continuously monitors and tracks the performance of every device and every link in your entire network, going deeper than other solutions by collecting error counters, performance data, configuration information and connectedness. A built-in heuristics engine analyzes all of this information to produce plain-English answers to problems. This means that complex problems can be solved by junior level engineers leaving the senior level engineers to work on more strategic level projects. The core product includes everything needed to run a perfectly healthy network: Configuration management, server monitoring, cloud service monitoring, IPAM, NetFlow, path mapping, and diagramming. Get Total Network Visibility on your network and solve more problems faster.

    "Excellent Product" Posted 2024-08-23

Pros: Love the simplicity and customization of the product, its very easy to get devices monitored and to modify nearly anything. Being able to mass modify interfaces really saves time and the notifications are now business critical at my facility. The support is second to none if you run into issues, the BGP monitoring and integrated IPAM/Syslog really set TotalView a cut above their competitors.

Cons: It would be nice if they integrated SFTP/SCP alongside TFTP for environments that require secure transfers. The Security module needs some work as well, getting too many false positives from Nessus/Cyber scans to make real issues hard to find.

Overall: If you are comparing this to other competitors keep in mind how much you are getting for the price of the product. The investment for us was a no brainer, it is lighter weight, has more features, and is just a great product.

Pros: Installation is quick and easy.
Configuration is very straight forward and easy.
Gives you a "TotalView" of your network and equipment.
Can be up and running in a matter of minutes.

Cons: You have to add some custom monitoring for things that should be included by default.

Overall: This is a great product and it has allowed us to gain valuable insight into our network that we have not had before.

"Features that just make sense" Posted 2022-11-28

Pros: Right off the top, the ease of configuration and understanding the information available was the most import aspect for me with TotalView. The software aggregates information on multiple devices in a way that makes narrowing down a network issue much more effective. In addition, syslog and Netflow views are available right from the device pages speeding up information that is critical to a strong network foundation.

Cons: There are still some product limitations that I believe will be addressed. Right now, insight into Meraki network and wireless devices is limited. IPAM is more of an aggregate view of discovered addresses rather than a tool that can be manually managed. SNMP information for non-Windows OS is limited to a network view only (no CPU, disk, or memory).

Overall: Overall I am very satisfied with TotalView as a replacement for our legacy network monitoring solution. All the features that a network engineer needs, presented in a way that is understandable to even a non-technical personnel. Pricing is competitive and appropriate for the solution. Technical support has been outstanding with addressing any issues and getting us started with the product.

Pros: Quick and good information. Works well when you need to get some good information on devices. Decent product.

Cons: Struggles to do everything that I would like it to do. Struggles to handle the size of our network environment.

Overall: Good product but has some issues with the size of our network. The Path section doesn't always work on our network.

TotalView can scale to networks of 150,000 interfaces from a single server. If you are having problems, this may be due to tuning or not enough virtual machine resources being given. Please contact [email protected] and they can help you with proper tuning to resolve these issues.

Pros: This is one of the easiest-to-install network monitoring and management systems ever. Anyone can get this up and running in under 15 minutes and, depending on your network, can be fully productive in under a day.

We currently have 5 techs monitoring and managing 160 network switches in 50 buildings across 2 campuses and this is their #1 tool for monitoring, troubleshooting, and fixing issues. The user interface is clean, simple and fast which makes it extremely easy to find and resolve issues.

One of the best features is the network prescription that will not only identify issues but provide you with an easy-to-understand explanation of the issue and how to resolve it.

Cons: I wish it was easier to customize for non-standard SNMP equipment, where I could load vendor MIBs to monitor these devices.

Server monitoring is very basic and needs improvement.

The automation tools are very basic and need improvement.

Overall: This is one of the best products I've ever used. It's simple, fast, reliable, easy to use, and is by far our #1 tool for network management.

Over the years, we've purchased tons of network management products that have either never been fully implemented or have failed because they were too complicated, requiring the network admin is spend more time managing the tool instead of the network. TotalView is a completely different experience. We've been using ours for over 2 years and it requires almost no time for setup or maintenance.

    Overall, great product.

Thanks for your positive recommendation. The included MIB browser has all of the vendor MIBs already added -- you can use it to choose any OID to monitor for non-standard SNMP equipment. We hear you on the server monitoring and automation pieces. We are currently adding a number of capabilities to both of these in our very next release.

Pros: I have been using PathSolutions for 15+ years. It has been a great product. I would recommend it to any IT Admin.

Cons: na - I really can't think of any cons. Support has always been great when I have come across an issue - which rarely happens.

Overall: Every new release add or updates features. If you need better network insight this is the product for your.

Pros: Price...Installation, initial configuration and training with Cris and Amy lasted until all my questions were answered. We run a call center with 80% remote users. Troubleshooting VOIP with WireShark or SNGREP is cool and all, but tech has other issues to solve. TotalView is running on my monitor, alerts are configured and I get better sleep.

Cons: Just like any third party app, SMTP authentication to Exchange Online needs to be configured. The native SMTP settings in Path Solutions doesn't offer Start TLS. We started out with an SMTP relay using Microsoft IIS and made REGEDIT changes. All is well.

Overall: Again, Path Solutions Total View has given the technology crew a real time view of our packet movement.

"Excellent every day to problem resolution!" Posted 2022-09-23

Pros: Ease of use, completeness of features, ability to determine issues quickly, monitoring interfaces and links, MOS Tools, Interface histories, IP management, GREMLIN history!!!

Cons: Having enough time to explore all the features. Not really a con but I find myself following interesting data within the interface when I should be doing something else.

Overall: I have used path solutions now for around 12-15 years. I have been impressed with the ongoing improvement of the product. Moreover, how those improvements make sense and make my daily life a little easier. They follow the trends not just to follow the trends but to keep up and stay ahead. I trust what I get from TotalView more than any other tool in my belt. The only thing more reliable is my manual screwdriver!
