Trip Interruption & Cancellation Insurance
University travelers may consider purchasing trip cancellation and/or trip interruption insurance for university or personal travel. This insurance can reduce the financial risk associated with travel.
Trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance typically provides reimbursement for last-minute cancellations due to sickness, severe weather, or even security risks. During travel it can provide coverage for travel delays, missed connections, lost/stolen baggage, early departures due to unforeseen personal events, extended in-country stays due to COVID-19, and more. It also includes optional add-on benefits (at higher cost) of Cancel For Any Reason and Interruption For Any Reason (CFAR/IFAR) where travelers have the option to cancel or interrupt their trip for any reason whatsoever and it would be covered by the insurance.
Leisure Travel Insurance
This policy provides coverage in certain areas that your standard U.S. insurance plan may not while traveling abroad. This includes, but is not limited to, coverage for:
- Trip cancellation, interruption, or delay;
- Emergency medical expenses or evacuation;
- Lost luggage, and more.
Personal Property Insurance
This policy covers losses that a homeowner's policy may not. This includes, but is not limited to, coverage for damage to:
- Computers, cell phones, or other electronic devices;
- Books or clothes, and
- Covered damages resulting from theft, water, earthquake, vandalism or accidental damage.
Plan highlights include:
- Low deductibles;
- Worldwide coverage;
- Full 12-month policy period, and more.
- Optional Personal Liability (Civil Liability) coverage for $100,000 and more.
University Property Insurance
University property is automatically insured, but with a $500,000 deductible. This insurance should not be relied upon for traveling computers due to the high deductible.
The university offers a Computer Insurance Plan that can cover computers and other electronic equipment. This coverage is not automatic. Colleges, departments or units must contact Risk Management if they want to participate in this plan.
As a reminder, international insurance does not cover travel outside of the established program dates and we strongly encourage all travelers to be insured for the duration of their travel.
