About the Illini Abroad Network

The Illini Abroad Network is a database and network of resources to support international travel and enhance the safety and security of university travelers. The Illini Abroad Network enables the university to more quickly and efficiently provide travelers with emergency assistance in the event of an incident or crisis abroad. Travel plan information will only be accessed by International Safety and Security in the event of an emergency.

The Illini Abroad Network (IAN) is not used for travel review or approval. When traveling to a high-risk destination for university-related reasons, travelers must comply with the University Travel Policies for High-Risk Destinations.

Personal Information

IAN only collects the minimal information necessary to begin a response to an emergency overseas. Collected information includes:

  • Traveler first and last names;
  • Record locator;
  • E-mail address;
  • SMS/mobile number;
  • UIN;
  • Flights and lodging;
  • Travel location(s) and date(s).

International Safety and Security will only share personal information with third parties that have a compelling need for the sole purpose of providing support for an emergency situation. Only information applicable to the emergency will be shared.

Security

IAN has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. The ANVIL Group, an organization specializing in travel risk management and crisis avoidance, is certified compliant with ISO 27001 (Information Security).

Questions

If you have questions or concerns regarding IAN, contact International Safety and Security via e-mail at [email protected] or via phone at 217-333-6104.

Registration Process

University-related travel is entered into IAN automatically through one of two processes, requiring no additional traveler action. First, all travel using the university-approved international insurance is pulled into IAN. Second, university travel procured using university travel cards through four primary travel agencies (Suzy Davis, Boersma, Frosch, Franklin, and CTP Inc.) is also entered in IAN.

Travel that is not insured or booked through one of the four agencies will not be in IAN.
