COVID-19 Travel Overview

While COVID-19 restrictions are easing, potential risk to international travelers remains. All travelers are encouraged to plan to mitigate their risk before and during international travel.

University Travel

Travel on behalf of the university no longer requires additional approvals other than the standard university approvals required before March 2020.

However, all travelers should follow the steps below:

• Assess the COVID-19 situation at your destination prior to departure to ensure travel to the location can be safely managed.
• Review and follow the U.S. Department of State and CDC guidance on international travel.
• Test to confirm your status before travel.
• Confirm that you will have adequate support at the destination to provide assistance with quarantine and care if required.
• Consider the impact of quarantine if infected, including the financial implications or other possible trip interruptions. This may include host nation precautionary measures.
• Assess the impact on the local community, considering if your activities could spread infection to others. Additionally, assess if your presence may strain resources needed for the host nation’s citizens.

International Insurance

Faculty and Staff

• Enroll in the university’s international insurance (required).
• Faculty and staff are required to enroll using the Faculty and Staff Insurance Enrollment Form.

Graduate Students

• Enroll in the university’s international insurance (required).
• Graduate students are required to submit the Graduate Student Insurance Enrollment Form.

Undergraduate Students

• Enroll in the university’s international insurance. This is required but most students will be automatically enrolled through their Study Abroad program.
• For individual travel, undergraduate students are required to submit the Undergraduate Student Insurance Enrollment Form.

Personal International Travel

The Department of State advises all U.S. citizens to read the country-specific Travel Advisories prior to travel. Individuals are also encouraged to review the CDC travel notices. The university-approved International Insurance does not apply to personal travel, however, there is an option for personal/leisure travel insurance on the Other Insurance Products page.

Returning to Campus

Upon arrival to the United States, all students, faculty, and staff should follow the latest CDC guidance for international travel.
