This is an Amigurumi Owl I came up with last night. Aaron has cleverly chosen to name him Hooter (real original) and because it is so simple, I’ve chosen to share my pattern with the world!

This is a good “first-timers” pattern since there is so little to it. Things you will need to know are:
- How to Single Crochet (you can learn here)
- What a magic ring is
- How to decrease
These are the materials you will need
- Dark Brown Yarn
- Light Brown Yarn
- Black Yarn
- Gold Yarn
- wide eyed Sewing needle
- Sewing thread (I use embroidery thread that coordinates with the yarn)
- Scissors
- Black felt (for eye brow, print out pattern is posted under “Eyes”)
- Orange embroidery thread
- Size G Hook
Abbreviations used in this pattern are-
- SC- Single Crochet
- ST- Stitch
- STS- Stitches
- DEC- Decrease
- F/O- Fasten off
So here it is:
Eyes-
*Make Two
(With black yarn)
sc 6 into magic ring (6)
(switch to gold)
2 sc in each st around (12)
sc in next st, two sc in next st, around (18)
F/O
Body-
(With Dark Brown yarn)
Round 1) 6 sc into magic ring (6)
Round 2) 2 sc in ea st, around (12)
Round 3) sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, around (18)
Round 4) sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, around (24)
Round 5) sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, around (30)
Round 6) sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, around (36)
Rounds 7-12) sc around (36)
(Switch to Light brown yarn)
Rounds 13-18) sc around (36)
(Sew on eyes and embroider on beak)
Round 19) sc in nect 5 sts, 2 sc in next st, around (42)
Round 20) sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, around (48)
Rounds 21-24) sc around (48)
Round 25) sc in next 6 sts, dec over next 2 sts, around (42)
Round 26) sc in next 5 sts, dec over next two sts, around (36)
Round 27) sc in next 4 sts, dec over next two sts, around (30)
Round 28) In Back Loops only, sc around (30)
(stuff and shape your owl firmly)
Round 29) sc in next 3 sts, dec over next 2 sts (24)
Round 30) sc in next 2 sts, dec over next 2 sts (18)
Round 31) sc in next st, dec over next 2 sts (12)
Round 32) dec 6 times
F/O
Wings-
(With Black)
Round1) 6 sc into magic ring(6)

The last thing you’ll need to do is sew on the wings, and attach the eye brow.
Ta-da! My first Amigurumi Pattern is complete and now I can let Hooter prowl ^_^

About how big does he end up being?

I would say he is about 5 and 1/2 inches tall, 4 and 1/2 inches wide. Short and Stout ^_^

I am starting my first owl and I have a pattern direction question.
Do you use stitch markers and do a continuous round or do you join each round with a slip stitch and chain one?

sorry I took so long to reply to this Lolly, I was bombarded with spam comments so I had to weed through them to get to the real ones.
The pattern is worked in continuous rounds, I tend not to join rounds in my patterns because it creates a seam going up the entire piece.
The pattern begins with the head and works its way down ^_^

Love this pattern! One of my friends is obsessed with owls and the color purple, so I made this little guy using a light and dark purple instead of the browns. It turned out SO cute, I know she’s going to absolutely love it.

I guess I’m the only one who doesn’t understand the wings. I ended up with 2 thimble shaped items… I can’t see how those become the wings in your picture. How are they supposed to be attached? Other than that, he’s super cute!
