About Trichinella spiralis

The nematode Trichinella spiralis is a roundworm with an unsegmented body that is a parasite of swine. Trichinosis is a disease of swine that can pass to humans by the eating of undercooked pork, digestive juices from the stomach dissolve the capsule-like cyst and release the parasites. The larvae then penetrate into the intestine where they mature and mate.

Genome Assembly & Annotation

Assembly

The genome of T. spiralis was produced by the Gasser laboratory at the University of Melbourne, as part of the assembly and analysis of all 12 recognized Trichinella species (described in Korhonen et al (2016)).

Annotation

The gene predictions were made by the Gasser laboratory at the University of Melbourne.
