About Trichinella nativa
The nematode Trichinella nativa is a parasite of a wide variety of mammals and birds. It is highly pathogenic and has a high resistance to freezing as it is encapsulated. Trichinellosis is caused by the ingestion of undercooked meat containing encysted larvae, the first signs include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, fever, and abdominal discomfort.

The genome of T. nativa was produced by the Gasser laboratory at the University of Melbourne, as part of the assembly and analysis of all 12 recognized Trichinella species (described in Korhonen et al (2016)).
