The Student Health Services 24-hour phone information nurse is available to help make health-related decisions when:
Health-related questions are answered by registered nurses who have been specifically trained for ‘phone triage.’ Registered nurses handle all calls between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. At all other times, the phone will initially be answered by a receptionist who is trained to answer questions about resources, hours, and general administrative information. Medical questions will be transferred to a registered nurse.
In the event of a mental health emergency when Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is closed, or you or another student/friend is in crisis and need to talk with someone, CAPS has 24-Hour crisis phone support.
The Center for Survivors operates a 24-hour crisis line, 10 a.m–10 p.m. crisis chat, and advocacy services to anyone in the greater Lansing community.
Call (517) 372-6666 or visit the Center for Survivors website for more information.
Visits to these facilities will be at the patient's expense. Urgent Care facilities cost much less than emergency room visits and can usually treat patients more quickly. Urgent care clinics offer medical care, lab, and x-ray for illness and injury that are not life-threatening, such as cuts, sprains, flu or fever. *In-network for BCN.
In the event of a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Students experiencing a medical emergency are advised to call 911 for ambulance transport to the hospital. Most insurers define a medical emergency as a sudden, unexpected illness or injury that poses an immediate threat to life, limb, or body function. Many insurers will not cover ER visits if the situation is not an emergency.
