Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ’em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve written before about the best women’s underwear and exercise underwear, as well as the best men’s underwear and women’s compression shorts, here we’ve rounded up the best-reviewed boy-short underwear for women on Amazon. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)
Best cotton boy shorts
“As a plus-size woman, it is hard to find underwear that is both cute and comfortable. I refuse to wear ‘granny panties,’ so I end up wasting money buying a lot of cute panties that just aren’t comfy. These, however, were perfect! Good coverage front and back and the legs are cut a bit higher in front, so they don’t roll up on you like some boy shorts tend to do. I would definitely recommend giving these a try!”
“Love these! I was looking for some cotton undies that are comfortable, affordable, and also have good butt and crotch coverage. These are it! I love how wide the crotch coverage is — no more lady bits peeking out!”
“Love these. Multiple colors, fit as expected, and cute. I can’t remember when I bought these — more than six months ago — but I haven’t experienced one hole, nor have I had a problem with stitching coming undone. Colors are still bright after many, many washes and uses. These are my favorite. I bought a couple packs and have replaced most of my panties with these.”
Best seamless boy shorts
“YES! These drawers are incredible. They smooth out all the bumpy parts in the midsection and they do so without cutting off circulation, binding, or pinching. They are what I would consider ‘compression shorts light.’ I can breathe, sit comfortably, and the fabric on the leg does not roll up as is the case with many other brands. These shorts are virtually imperceptible under clothes, and they are perfectly modest if a breeze blows your skirt up. I’m so happy with them that I ordered six more.”
“These are the best. I’ve been looking for undies like this forever and plan to purchase several more sets. They’re of a spandex-y material and cover your entire butt and then some, unlike so many other boy-short styles out there. Comfortable, flattering, far less obvious panty lines, and no ride-ups. I love that I can wear them with not only jeans, but leggings and tighter pencil skirts as well.”
“They are super comfortable and very stylish. I had this problem where my pants would rub against my upper leg when wearing regular undies, and now that problem is gone! Very breathable material, and they’ve stood up well against my husband’s washing fails.”
Best organic boy shorts
“I love them! They are comfy, breathable, and flattering. I also love that they are made from bamboo fiber, since bamboo is a sustainable plant. I have to get a bunch more pairs since these are now my favorite undies!”
“These are the most comfortable underwear I have ever worn! They are made with buttery-smooth organic cotton. They have exceptionally low-profile stitching to avoid skin irritation. The seams do not dig into the skin or cause chafing, even during intense physical activity like long-distance running. They are invisible under clothes, so can be worn for any and all occasions. The fabric does not fade, stretch out, or shrink with wear or laundering. Now that I have found these, I don’t want to wear anything else! I’m looking forward to replacing all of my irritating, low-quality synthetic panties with these — and I’m delighted to continue supporting this awesome ethical company while doing it.”
Best lace boy shorts
“I have worn Hanky Panky thongs almost exclusively for years (for comfort) but decided to try the boy short. First off, they are so pretty. They feel great and yet they still have the ‘no panty lines’ quality that I love about thongs. They may seem pricey but they will last a long time, I am sure, as my other Hanky Panky items have worn well with no pilling or fraying — good as new.”
“I am a ‘comfy cotton underwear’ kind of girl, but my boyfriend stated that he liked the ‘lacy cheeky’ look while we were out shopping a couple weeks ago (what dude doesn’t?), and I wasn’t really eager to spend $9 on a pair from Victoria’s Secret. I’m glad I took a chance on these. The lace is super soft, so it makes wearing them much more bearable than other lacy panties I’ve come across. The colors are accurate and my ass looks fantastic. Boyfriend more than approves. I actually have even been wearing them on days that I’m not going to see him, that’s how comfy I think they are.”
Best lace-trimmed boy shorts
“I love the Maidenform brand. It is the only underwear that I have bought that both makes me feel sexy and can be worn underneath my everyday clothes. Gone are the days of sexy underwear stuck up my butt. Gone are the days of granny panties because they are they only thing that fit. I’m converting my sisters to the brand and will continue to suggest them to anyone that asks.”
“As someone who only wears boy shorts, I am always looking for the perfect pair. I have tried many different brands of boy shorts, and I have found these to be the most comfortable. They are cotton, which is a must! They hug everything nicely and stay comfortable all day (no bagging or shifting). They are a nice medium-weight cotton, but do not feel bulky. They are a medium rise, not too low like a lot of boy shorts out there that seem to be made for people who have no butt whatsoever.”
Best plus-size boy shorts
“As a curvy girl with a big caboose, hipsters have not been my friend. Inevitably, they’re too low-rise, don’t stretch in the right places, or ride up as soon as I start moving. I decided to try these for some reason I can’t remember, and I’m glad I did! They’re comfy, super stretchy (while still holding their shape), and have held up well in the wash.”
Best exercise boy shorts
“No, these are not sexy underwear to wear out on a ‘date night,’ but they are the most comfortable underwear I have ever worn. They make great workout underwear under yoga and workout tights, too! They do not ride up, roll up, bunch up or roll down at all. Great everyday wear!”
