A few years ago, I watched in reserved horror as a girlfriend of mine took a pair of tweezers to her bikini line in the back seat of a car that was speeding through the desert. We were on our way to meet up with her paramour at the time, and she wanted to make sure things looked all good down there.
While not super efficient, plucking out hairs one by one is actually pretty low on the scale of painful things women and men do to maintain (or remove) their pubic hair. There’s also waxing, pricey laser removal, at-home laser removal, depilatories, electrolysis, epilators, and worst of all, razors.
I’ve tried a few of these methods, including one of those girly, palm-size trimmers that just couldn’t cut it, and am happy to report that I have found a better way. After reading a WikiHow article about how beard trimmers could be useful for this particular job, and literally choosing the cheapest one I could find, I’ve discovered a great low-maintenance, low-pain, and low-cost method for managing things down there: the Braun CruZer 6 High Definition Precision Trimmer and it costs less than ten bucks.
Let’s start with the size: This thing is as long as my hand and about the diameter of my thumb, which makes it easy to hold and easy to handle. What’s more, in the year or so that I’ve had it, I don’t think I’ve ever replaced the batteries. And since its extra-fine teeth can easily handle wiry, male facial hair, the Braun doesn’t blink (or easily clog) at the prospect of cutting through pubic hair on either sex, and its nickel-size, tapered head — with accompanying covers for those who only want to trim to 5 mm or 8 mm — means it can easily navigate the nooks and crannies that come with being a fully-grown adult person with nooks and crannies. Finally, prepare to be jazzed about the little stand that lets you display your tiny trimmer, if you’re into that type of thing.
Writer Fiona Byrne has been using this Braun epilator for years and years, and writes: “Here’s how it works: It’s an epilator, which means there’s a rotating head with inset tweezer-type things that spin around akin to a paint roller. You move it over your skin as you would a razor, except instead of shaving your hair, it’s plucking each one out. Even the short, fine ones. It even has a little light, so you won’t miss even the finest little hair … I’m going to be real with you, however: The bikini line does hurt a bit more. As with legs, it gets somewhat less painful the more often you use it on that area, but it’s certainly not something I get excited about every few weeks. It’s not dreadful, but it’s not enjoyable.”
While we can’t personally vouch for it, this right here is the best-reviewed bikini trimmer on Amazon. Writes a very satisfied user: “This is so much better for sculpting my little lawn. Before, I was using hair clippers, and I found with those, it covered too much space, and I wasn’t able to be precise about what spots were longer and shorter. This is tinier and precise. The guard is great. I did find, though, that for the really tricky areas where I needed it close to the skin and a very close trim, the guard made it difficult to cut, so I took off the guard and used it very carefully.”
