The lowdown

When Andrew Carmellini’s Soho tavern opened in 2011, it was met with the kind of hype most restaurateurs can only dream about. In the years since, however, the buzz has understandably calmed some and the Dutch has instead grown to become one of downtown’s most reliable restaurants, a place where you can grab an excellent lunchtime salad with colleagues, sneak in for a well-made drink and some oysters at the small back bar, or splurge on a special-occasion steak for two with all the trimmings. In short: it’s the Soho version of a classic bar and grill, run by one of New York City’s most accomplished restaurant groups.
